Salary
Fate Therapeutics is seeking an experienced attorney with a strong background in life sciences to provide transactional legal support across the organization. This role will focus on drafting, reviewing, and negotiating a wide range of complex commercial agreements essential to the company's operations and product development. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams at all levels, offering strategic legal counsel to navigate business and legal risks effectively. A proactive, solutions-oriented approach and the ability to communicate complex legal concepts clearly will be key to success in this position. This is a full-time, exempt position reporting to the Senior Corporate Counsel and is located at the Company’s corporate headquarters in San Diego, California.
Responsibilities
- Draft, review and negotiate a wide variety of contracts, including but not limited to non-disclosure agreements, clinical trial agreements, master service agreements, supply agreements, research collaboration agreements, licensing agreements, consulting agreements and other agreements of varying complexity.
- Advise internal stakeholders on contractual rights and obligations, legal risks, and mitigation strategies.
- Provide pragmatic, business-focused legal advice that balances risk with program urgency.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support timely execution of agreements and related documents.
- Develop, maintain, and manage contract templates and playbooks to ensure consistency and compliance.
- Support and contribute to improvements in legal operations.
- Support compliance initiatives, corporate governance, and other legal functions as needed.
Qualifications
- Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school; active membership in good standing with at least one state bar (California bar membership is preferred).
- 5+ years of relevant legal experience working as an attorney in a well-regarded law firm, in-house, or a combination of both; prior experience working within the life sciences industry is highly preferred.
- Strong contract drafting and negotiation skills; experience with clinical trial agreements is preferred.
- Excellent computer, communication, problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and adapt to shifting priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong internal and external customer service mentality and sense of urgency.
- Effective interpersonal skills and ability to productively interact with diverse audiences, including senior management, peers, and external parties.
- Ability and interest in developing expertise in new, complex subject areas.
Working conditions & Physical Requirements
- Travel may be required.
- Subject to extended periods of sitting and standing, vision to monitor, and moderate noise levels.
Compensation
- The salary offer will be based on a variety of factors, including level, experience, qualifications, internal equity, and location.
- Fate offers a competitive employment package that includes an annual bonus, equity, and a generous benefits package.
- The anticipated salary range for this role is $200,000 - $250,000.
