Driver’s License: Level 0 - No Driver’s License Required.
Rate of Pay: $26.95 - $30.32
Responsibilities
- Office Management:
-
- Assist in design and implementation of office procedures via forms, checklists, systems, etc.
- Assist attorney in tracking case/work load.
- Coordinate legal staff meetings.
- Legal Writing:
-
- Compose and type general correspondence.
- Draft contracts and other legal documents under instructions from attorney.
- Research:
-
- Records Research (as assigned by attorney).
- Statistical Research (as assigned by attorney).
- Legislative monitoring of activities by legislative committees contemplating new laws (as assigned by attorney).
- Legal research (shepardizing, cite checking, etc.).
- Document/Record Gathering:

- Assist in gathering necessary documents/records.
- Calendar Monitoring:
-
- Maintain ticker system, e.g., court appearance dates, filings, pending responses, contract expirations, and renewals, etc.
- Maintain individual attorney's calendar.
- Schedule appointments (to be confirmed with attorney) and maintain attorney's office calendar.
- Bookkeeping/Accounting:
-
- Staff time sheets.
- Submit request for payment form for legal-related and office expenses; receive appropriate authorization for expenditure; receive check from accounting office; and remit to vendor.
- Draft annual office budget.
- Conduct quarterly budget analysis and report to supervising attorney.
- Office Supplies and Equipment:

- Maintain adequate office supplies, order supplies, as necessary.
- Oversee the purchase, use and maintenance of computer system, computer printers, and copier.
- Filing/Records Management:

- Maintain, monitor, and index office files.
- Miscellaneous Responsibilities/Duties:

- Type assignments from attorney.
- Take dictation and transcribe.
- Route incoming mail.
- Prepare outgoing mail.
- Copy and bind documents.
- Receptionist for legal office.
- Make travel arrangements for attorney.
- Take minutes at staff meetings.
- Run office errands.
- Notary Public.
- Appropriate work attire is required.
- Must attend all mandatory department trainings.
- Ensures confidentiality of financial records and all records for employees and/or clients.
- Displays a responsive and professional manner in promptly responding to all requests, complaints, and problems.
- Recognizes that each employee is a representative of the Fond du Lac Band of Lake Superior Chippewa and is responsible for demonstrating courtesy, respect, and sensitivity to the needs of all others, including visitors and co-workers.
- Represents the Fond du Lac Band of Lake Superior Chippewa and the department in a positive and professional manner in the community.
- Required to maintain proper attendance including reporting to work on time in accordance with applicable policies.
- Maintains a clean and organized work area.
- Due to changes and modifications in the job from time to time, employees are required to be flexible and assume other responsibilities assigned by management as deemed necessary.
- Some travel may be required.
Qualifications
- No Driver’s License Required.
- High School diploma of General education degree (GED) is required.
- Knowledge of computer applications to include word processing, databases and/or data entry, spreadsheets and Microsoft Outlook is required.
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing is required.
- Ability to work independently and establish priorities is required.
- Attention to detail and accuracy is required.
- Ability to establish professional and harmonious working relationships on all projects and with all parties involved.
- Subject to drug and alcohol testing in accordance with the Fond du Lac Reservation’s Personnel Policies.
- Subject to pre-employment and annual background checks.
- Subject to immunization review and submitted proof of required vaccinations.
