As a Parole Hearing Officer, you will serve as a Specialized Hearing Examiner assisting the Board in making parole release decisions. You will conduct various hearings required in the parole consideration process including parole interviews with offenders sentenced to two or more years of confinement, first and second level Parole Violation Hearings, and other miscellaneous requested hearings. You will also hear testimony from crime victims concerning the initial impact of the offense, continuing effects, and their feelings regarding the parole of an inmate. This role requires effective communication to prepare thorough summary reports used to decide parole release or revocation. In addition, you will review past and current criminal history, parole supervision history, and consider effective re-integration strategies for each offender.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 37.5 hours per week
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Home Headquartered: This position is home headquartered. In order to be home headquartered, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. You will be required to report quarterly for a staff meeting in Harrisburg for the day. All interviews and hearings will be conducted virtually.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

  • $88,235 - $134,162/year
Qualifications

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Six years of professional experience in parole, probation, criminal justice, or social work dealing with persons involved in criminal or delinquent activities, or programs concerned with such individuals; and four years of paraprofessional experience in criminal justice or social work; or
  • Six years of professional experience in parole, probation, criminal justice, or social work dealing with persons involved in criminal or delinquent activities, or programs concerned with such individuals; and a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, social work, or a closely related field; or
  • Graduation with a law degree from a school of law accredited by the American Bar Association and three years of professional legal experience as an attorney; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.

  • This particular position also requires graduation with a law degree from a school of law accredited by the American Bar Association and three years of professional legal experience as an attorney.
