What You'll Do:
The Ohio Attorney General's Office is currently seeking an experienced candidate to fill a Criminal Intelligence Analyst position in the Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) Section. This position will be assigned to either the Richfield or Bowing Green Office. This position will be assigned to the NIBIN program. The Bureau of Criminal Investigation, known as BCI, is the state’s official crime lab serving the criminal justice community and protecting Ohio families. BCI also provides expert criminal investigative services to local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies upon request. With offices throughout the state, BCI stands ready to respond 24/7 to local law enforcement agencies’ needs at no cost to the requesting agency.
Staff at BCI work every day to provide the highest level of service. This includes special agents who are on call 24/7 to offer investigative assistance at crime scenes, knowledgeable scientists and forensic specialists using cutting-edge technology to process evidence to bring criminals to justice, and criminal intelligence analysts and identification specialists who help local law enforcement solve cases. Experienced special agents, forensic scientists, and other law enforcement experts' staff BCI's three main divisions\: 1) Identifications 2) Investigations and 3) Laboratory.
The duties for this position include, but are not limited to the following:
- Independently reviews and analyzes problems related to sophisticated and/or complex criminal activity
- Independently reviews and analyzes intelligence request forms to appropriately accommodate intelligence information
- Develops and analyzes informational databases, spreadsheets and reports
- Prepares case reports and charts for user agencies and/or court systems
- Collects, researches, coordinates, organizes and analyzes intelligence information and other resources to determine patterns, trends and movements of organized crime groups, terrorists and/or professional criminals to aid law enforcement agencies with investigations
- Maintains case files and makes presentations to case agents and/or law enforcement agencies
- Coordinates research activities with other departmental units and or outside agencies
- Recommends policy and procedural changes (e.g., unit goals, BCI directives, unit operating procedures)
- Ensures compliance with applicable federal statutes, Ohio Revised Code and Ohio Attorney General BCI Directives
- Assists in reviewing and recommending software and hardware equipment
- Serves as resource person and technical advisor in area of criminal intelligence
- Testifies in court
- Schedules, coordinates and/or conducts classes, seminars and conferences
- Coordinates interstate and intrastate information
- Maintains association with and facilitates exchange of information for disposition of criminal activity and/or intelligence information between federal, state and local law enforcement. Upon employment and to remain in classification after employment, individual must:
- Obtain law enforcement automated data systems (i.e., LEADS) certification
- Renew LEADS certification bi-annually
- Successfully complete federal law enforcement training center's criminal intelligence training program or similar program.
- Provides support to federal, state and local law enforcement assigned to the NIBIN Cases.
- Analyzes NIBIN leads and supporting information to create actionable intelligence.
