Job Description

Summary

The Chester County Detective Bilingual Forensic Interviewer/Interpreter position is responsible for conducting forensic interviews of child abuse victims and child witnesses in both the English and Spanish language and communicating and interviewing parents and care givers in both the English and Spanish languages for the purpose of investigating and prosecuting reports of child physical or sexual abuse, child exploitation, homicide, neglect, and other child abuse investigations. This position aids the Chester County District Attorney's Office, Chester County Detective's Child Abuse Unit, and the Chester County Children's Advocacy Center with interpretation and translation services in investigations, case documentation, and trial preparation, by providing interpretation and translation of interviews, documents, recordings and meetings in investigations and prosecutions of criminal cases.

Essential Duties

  • Conducting forensic interviews of child abuse victims and child witnesses in both the English and Spanish language.
  • Interpret during live interviews and phone calls in support of the Child Abuse Unit and Children's Advocacy Center.
  • Supports the Chester County Child Advocacy Center and the Child Abuse Unit by providing Spanish language translation for those other persons involved in the investigation and prosecution of child abuse cases.
  • Translation and Interpretation of the Spanish language in recorded interviews, phone calls, messages, and other data extractions or information supporting the investigation and prosecution in child abuse cases.
  • Assist prosecutors and investigators with translation and transcription of the Spanish language in recordings from interviews, phone calls and prison phone calls, phone and other messages, and data extraction from devices being examined in the investigation and prosecution of child abuse cases.
  • Complete reports on CCD reporting system.
  • Provide expert testimony
  • Work with the Chester County Children's Advocacy Center Multi-Disciplinary Investigative Team (MDIT) on case review, and case by case consultation.
  • Ability to maintain confidential information/matters
  • Other duties as required

Qualifications/Preferred Skills, Knowledge & Experience

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma required College degree preferred
  • Fluent in Spanish
  • Ability to translate Spanish and English language
  • Read, speak and write Spanish
  • Must have or obtain certification in forensic interviewing of children
  • Child Abuse/State Police/FBI clearances required
  • NCIC/CLEAN record check

Additional Information

Relevant background checks, clearances, physicals, drug tests, and any other assessments or evaluations will be conducted after an offer of employment is given per County policy.
