Job Overview Summary
This position provides legal expertise and support across all business functions within Advarra, Inc. The position will need to frequently interact with senior level executives both internally and externally. As a direct report of the GC, the Assistant General Counsel will serve as the primary partner to the GC and will lead a team of attorneys. Additionally, the Assistant General Counsel will assist with various projects, litigations, and investigations and will work closely with the GC on other matters as assigned. This is an exciting opportunity for a senior level in-house counsel looking to take the next step. This position will provide legal advice and counsel to the Company’s strategic business units and functional units. He or she will manage risks through counseling and the implementation and practical application of Company policies, processes and procedures. He or she will participate in and contribute to the development and on-going review of relevant processes, guidelines and procedures, including those relating to the Company’s commercial contracting practices. The work requires cross-functional and business unit collaboration within the Company.
Job Duties & Responsibilities
- Manage and mentor a team of attorneys responsible for the contracting function within the Company.
- Provide substantive legal review and serve as an escalation point for other attorneys.
- Partner with business departments within the Company, including but not limited to Commercial, Finance, Marketing, Regulatory, Compliance, Privacy and Business Development
- Work closely with Legal Department and business colleagues in preparing guidance and training materials to support the efficient and compliant negotiation of agreements.
- Provide consistent and efficient legal and compliance support to the Company in accordance with Advarra’s policies and related laws, codes and regulations to mitigate risk to the company.
- Provide expert-level legal advice and support to business unit and functional unit senior management, including with respect to intellectual property matters.
- Maintain a positive, results orientated work environment, building partnerships, and modeling teamwork, communicating to the team in an open, balanced and objective manner.
- Undertake the full range of duties to ensure performance meets and/or exceeds the Company’s goals and objectives.
- Manage risks through counseling and practical application of Company policies, processes, and procedures.
- Take a leadership role in the on-going review and development of both department and Company policies, processes and procedures
Location
This role is open to candidates working remotely in the United States.
Basic Qualifications
- Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school
- Admission to at least one state bar (and be a member in good standing)
- 10+ years law firm or in-house experience working with pharmaceutical and/or biotech companies and their service providers (e.g., CRO, technology)
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior in-house legal experience working in a global organization is essential
- Experience in people management and resolution of day-to-day corporate and commercial issues and mitigation of related legal risks
- Experience drafting, reviewing, and negotiating a wide range of commercial contracts and agreements with customers, vendors, partners, agents, distributors, resellers and other third parties
- Ability to quickly establish productive relationships with clients and business partners
- Superb drafting skills, with affinity for using language to achieve compromise
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Initiative, enthusiasm, and resourcefulness
- Possesses financial and business acumen
- Ability to take a business and client-focused approach to work
- Ability to analyze complex business and legal issues/risks to advance practical solutions

The base salary range for this role is $250,000 - $270,000. Note that salary may vary based on location, skills, and experience and may vary from the amounts listed above. This position may also be eligible for a variable bonus in addition to base salary as well as health coverage, paid holidays, and other benefits.
