Job Description

We are actively seeking an Associate Attorney to join our Commercial Litigation practice. A successful candidate will have at least 2 years of litigation experience.

This position offers the opportunity to work on complex legal issues with large corporate clients, collaborate with attorneys, and shape the development of the law through persuasive advocacy. This role requires exceptional litigation and case management skills, excellent written work, the ability to work independently and collaboratively, and the confidence to take the lead in high stakes matters from inception through resolution.

Location: This position is based in our Chattanooga, TN office. Candidates must be willing to commute or relocate to the Chattanooga area to be considered.

FLSA status: Exempt

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage a diverse caseload of complex commercial litigation matters, including contract disputes, statutory claims, business torts, and regulatory claims.
  • Contribute to class action and multi-plaintiff litigation, including motion practice, discovery, depositions, expert witness development, and trial preparation.
  • Defend national and international companies in products liability actions involving consumer goods, industrial equipment, pharmaceuticals, or other regulated products.
  • Work with senior attorneys to develop case strategy and collaborate with clients, in-house counsel, and outside experts.
  • Advise clients on risk management, regulatory compliance, and litigation avoidance strategies.
  • Participate in settlement negotiations, mediations, and arbitrations.
  • Conduct extensive legal research to support written and oral advocacy.
  • Analyze trial records, transcripts, and legal precedent to identify appellate issues.
  • Present oral arguments before appellate courts when necessary.
  • Prior experience in trial and appellate work, and ability to draft trial and appellate pleadings, briefs, and motions in state and federal courts.

Qualifications:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Strong law school and undergraduate academic record. Law review or law journal experience a plus.
  • Excellent writing skills.
  • Commitment to highest ethical and professional standards.
  • Member in good standing of the Tennessee bar or willing to gain bar membership in TN through comity process.
  • Minimum 2 years of commercial litigation experience, specifically in business related litigation matters, class actions and/or products liability.
  • Trial experience, significant deposition and motion practice preferred.
  • Strong legal research and analytical skills.
  • Excellent verbal communication abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple cases and meet tight deadlines.
  • Experience in handling post-trial motions and appeals.
  • Demonstrated leadership, initiative, and ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

Additional Qualifications (preferred, not required):

  • Judicial clerkship experience a plus.
