Description
TMG seeks an entrepreneurial and driven Legal Director to partner in all aspects of the ongoing business operations and new business initiatives of a global trading firm. You will be responsible for all legal, corporate governance, compliance, transactional, and regulatory activities of the company. You will work collaboratively with members of the TMG executive team and will provide legal counsel to business development initiatives, operations, finance, personnel, and trading teams.
Responsibilities
- Broad Oversight and Responsibility for all Company contracts - Assisting with new projects, including knowledge management, establishment of standards and templates, and supporting new and expanding business areas
- Managing the internal legal team, external counsel, and other external advisers as needed (including managing budgets and expectations).
- Regulatory & Compliance – Oversight of ongoing requirements as well as researching and advising on regulations affecting the business, communicating with regulators and exchanges.
- Corporate Governance – Oversight and responsibility of our corporate legal structure and of our foreign affiliates. Managing documentation and communication with the equity owners of the company.

Required Skills & Experience
- Minimum 4-7 years of legal experience, ideally in a capital markets setting (trading firms, hedge funds, asset management, etc). Familiarity with derivatives, securities, financing, and related regulations with knowledge of tax implications being a plus. Prior experience in-house is preferred.
- Experience working with and negotiating a wide variety of transactional work relating to day-to-day operations of a global trading firm, including but not limited to technology agreements, market data, financing arrangements, trading, business acquisitions, tax implications etc.
- Legal generalist skill set with exposure to some or all of the following: corporate governance, employment/immigration law, global trading operations regulation, HR legal support, finance and accounting operations, international tax, and risk management in global trading.
- Attention to detail and the ability to make sound judgments under pressure.
- Strong work ethic and willingness combined with the ability to handle competing priorities in an ever-evolving business environment.
- This position requires physical presence and is onsite at our office in Chicago, IL.
- Reliable and flexible team player with a positive attitude who has the ability to effectively communicate at all levels of the firm.
