POSITION DESCRIPTION
The General Counsel at Sellmark Corporation serves as the chief legal officer, responsible for overseeing all legal matters impacting the company’s operations, risk management, compliance, and strategic initiatives. This executive role partners closely with the leadership team to ensure business objectives are achieved within a robust legal and ethical framework, reflecting Sellmark’s values of innovation, accountability, and personal growth.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND TASKS
- Provide comprehensive legal advice and counsel to executive management and business units on a broad range of issues, including contracts, employment law, intellectual property, regulatory compliance, and risk mitigation.
- Draft, review, and negotiate a variety of agreements, such as vendor contracts, NDAs, partnership agreements, and more.
- Oversee and manage litigation, dispute resolution, and coordination with external counsel as needed while keeping cost low.
- Advise on employee relations, policy development, and compliance with federal and state employment regulations, supporting HR in best practices for onboarding, performance management, and employee separations.
- Ensure the company’s compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and industry standards, including those specific to the outdoor products and brand development sectors.
- Lead the company’s legal strategy, anticipating legal issues and proactively developing solutions to mitigate risks.
- Participate in strategic planning and business development initiatives, including mergers, acquisitions, and stock transactions.
- Develop, implement, and update company policies and procedures to ensure legal and regulatory compliance.
- Provide training and guidance to staff on legal topics relevant to their roles and responsibilities.
- Document and maintain best practices, processes, and legal records to ensure organizational scalability and knowledge sharing.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school; active member in good standing with the State Bar of Texas. Practicing as a generalist for 7+ years.
- Extensive experience in corporate law, preferably with in-house counsel experience in a manufacturing, distribution, or brand development environment.
- Demonstrated expertise in contract law, employment law, intellectual property, regulatory compliance, privacy, and litigation management.
- Strong business acumen and ability to align legal strategy with organizational goals.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills, with a collaborative and transparent approach consistent with Sellmark’s culture.
- High ethical standards, sound judgment, and the ability to handle complex legal matters with decisiveness and integrity.
- Experience with subsidiary management and secretarial duties.
- Ability to develop and lead diverse teams, manage external legal resources, and control legal budgets.
- Visionary mindset with curiosity, ambition, and the ability to inspire others.
- Commitment to continuous learning and professional development, both personally and for the broader team.
As a company with products related to the firearms and outdoor sports industry, applicants must be comfortable working in environments where firearms and related equipment are present. Experience in the firearms and/or hunting industry and knowledge of safe weapons handling is highly preferred.
WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be required to sit or stand for extended periods of time. The employee may be required to bend, twist, reach, push, pull and operate office machinery and motor vehicles.

The role primarily aligns with standard business hours; however, flexibility is essential to accommodate varying schedules based on business demands. This may include evening, weekend, and holiday shifts, as well as hours outside of typical departmental operations.
