                                    Hybrid Scheduled (1 to 3 Days Onsite)

Location:                   Los Angeles

Salary Range:           $33.47/hour - $48.08/hour ($65,250.00 - $93,750.00 annually) *

 The Paralegal I is responsible for working with Firm attorneys, clients and professionals to support a wide range of litigation matters. The Paralegal I typically performs billable tasks associated with case organization, discovery, trial preparation and trial/arbitration. The Paralegal I works with other case support professionals to build solid organizational structures for matters supported by the Firm.

Job Functions & Responsibilities

  • Support case organizational protocols.
  • Partner with case teams and other colleagues to address client needs.
  • Provide on-site support at trial (including those out of state).
  • Conduct legal and factual cite-checks on federal and state court documents including substantive content review. Coordinate the preparation of filings including supporting documents and exhibits.
  • Conduct calendaring and docketing analysis; maintain secondary active calendar for case team.
  • Conduct legal research on a broad variety of topics. Analyze court procedural requirements and track court decisions.
  • Engage in fact development.
  • Assist with document productions.
  • Facilitate foreign language document translations.
  • Provide key support on appellate filings including appendix preparation and management of final document submissions.
  • Actively participate in firm-sponsored trainings and apply learned principles in ongoing work.
  • Implement post-matter closing instructions including:
  • Litigation hold compliance.
  • Document destruction policy compliance.
  • Protective order compliance.
  • Preparation of cost bills (Bills of Costs) for recoverable court costs and expenses.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Job Qualifications

  • High School Diploma required, Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Paralegal Certification required (must be California Business and Professional Code § 6450 compliant).
  • 1+ years of law firm experience preferred.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and Adobe Acrobat.
  • Proficiency with typical legal support software: Westlaw, Lexis, Relativity (or similar), CaseNotebook (or similar), iTimekeep (or similar) and iManage (or similar).
  • Solid written and verbal communication skills to actively support work teams.
  • Ability to take and follow direction of letterhead attorneys and execute on assigned work.
  • Strong research and reasoning skills to conduct effective research in support of assigned matters.
  • Ability to interpret and understand complex case facts and themes in assigned work.
  • Ability to be flexible and agile in work direction and assignments.
  • Skilled in drafting common litigation forms and able to edit legal documents.
  • Ability to work independently and conduct accurate and timely cite-checks.
  • Availability, as needed, to work extended hours, nights, and weekends.
  • Demonstrates good judgment, attention to detail, initiative and has a team player mentality.
  • Responds quickly to constantly changing instructions, particularly in pressured situations (trial).
  • Exhibit initiative in seeking work and managing case load; consistently produce high quality work product, regularly check for errors and make necessary corrections; take ownership of projects and assignments and complete in a timely fashion.
  • Fluency in a foreign language is not required but is preferred.

Physical Demands

Writing, typing, reading, speaking, hearing, seeing, sitting, bending, reaching, lifting (up to 25 lbs).

Working Conditions

Primarily in-office but will occasionally be required to work off-site at trials, client offices or other alternate work locations.
