
The Paralegal will support attorneys and will collaborate with other departments and staff to provide comprehensive support throughout all aspects of business litigation cases .
Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform administrative duties, including scheduling appointments, hearings, and deadlines; organizing case files; and managing logistics.
- Assist attorneys with all stages of business litigation, from per-suit investigation through trial and appeal.
- Review and maintain documents and case files, compiling documents for filing with courts and relevant agencies.
- Understand and execute electronic filing processes with various court systems.
- Maintain a working knowledge of the code of civil procedure, civil code, local rules, and courtroom rules and procedures.
- Schedule and coordinate depositions, appointments, mediations, and other legal proceedings.
- Communicate and interact with outside counsel to serve documents, coordinate depositions, and request extensions on deadlines.
- Engage with filing clerks, courtroom assistants, and calendar clerks.
- Prepare and maintain matrices for subpoenas, medical records, subcontractors, insurance tenders, status of settlements, discovery, processes of service, mediation and/or trial, and expert witnesses.
- Draft and proofread correspondence, including pleadings, discovery documents, status reports, contracts, and other related materials.
- Organize and facilitate case-related team meetings as needed.
- Summarize discovery responses, document productions, and relevant records in accordance with insurance guidelines.
- Attend client meetings, conference calls, and other case-related meetings with attorneys.
- Conduct legal research, document review, and factual research using internal and external databases and libraries, as well as performing other related eDiscovery tasks.
- Prepare attorneys for depositions, hearings, and other appearances by gathering witness information, exhibits, and other case-related materials.
- Support attorneys at court and agency hearings to include mediations and arbitrations.
- Liaise with outside vendors, such as court reporters, experts, and mediators.
- Accurately document and bill for all billable and non-billable work and tasks according to billing procedures, ensuring that annual billable hour requirements are met.
- Attend paralegal meetings and other meetings as required.
- Perform other duties and projects as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree preferred, or equivalent experience working in a legal environment.
- Minimum 3-5 years of experience in business or commercial litigation.
- Strong knowledge of federal and state court rules and procedures.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines with attention to detail.
- Proficient in Word, Adobe, Excel, Outlook, and various legal software applications.
- Strong analytical and organizational skills; team0oriented mindset.
- Paralegal certificate from an ABA certified program or attestation from a previous employer attorney.

Physical Requirements

Repetitive motion. Substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers. The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading. Work is performed in an office environment and requires the ability to operate standard office equipment and keyboards. Must have the ability to walk short distances, and/or drive a vehicle to deliver and pick up materials. Work can be performed with or without accommodation.

5-10% domestic travel by car and by plane.
