This role will be based in our Los Angeles office, on an in-office basis This role reports to the Business Director.
Position Summary
The Entertainment Paralegal will provide organizational and practice specific assistance to attorneys in the Entertainment Department with all aspects of music clearance and agreements. Demonstrates professionalism, attention to detail, and ability to handle multiple priorities and work in an organized, efficient manner at any given time. Supports the department with general administrative duties and special projects. Candidate should also be flexible to work overtime as needed.
Key Responsibilities
Handles music clearance, including: budgeting, obtains quotes, fee negotiation, preparation and review of licenses, and coordinates license payments for music clients
Assists attorneys with due diligence in the purchase of music catalogs by clients
Negotiates and drafts boiler plate provisions for songwriter agreements, sub-publishing agreements, producer agreements and mixer agreements
Performs research and prepares signatory documents
Creates and maintains form agreement database for use of all attorneys in Entertainment department
Maintains timely and accurate timekeeping records
Retains day to day responsibility for performance of general paralegal duties
Assists with other department activities as needed, and performs additional duties and responsibilities as assigned
Qualifications
Skills and Competencies
Established experience in handling publishing catalogs and in publishing and master clearance
Knowledge of songwriter agreements, sub-publishing agreements, produces and mixer agreements
Understanding of copyright laws with emphasis on termination issues
Ability to communicate professionally and interact effectively with all levels of personnel, including management staff and support staff
Ability to be a proactive self-starter who understands the details within a much larger context
Demonstrated attention to detail, reliability and ability to learn new technology quickly
Excellent customer service skills and ability to work on multiple matters simultaneously in an organized manner and under minimal supervision
Flexibility and able to respond quickly and positively to shifting demands
Education & Prior Experience
Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience and Paralegal certification required
Minimum 3 years of experience as a Music Paralegal within a law firm with demonstrated knowledge of complex issues with the Entertainment practice area
Technology
Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite applications including Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Outlook, as well as document management and other office technologies and experience with e-filing
Exceptional computer skills with the ability to learn new software applications quickly
Knowledge of DocuSign and Concur preferred
- Demonstrates a basic understanding of artificial intelligence (AI), including core capabilities, limitations, and importance of data privacy, accuracy, verification, and ethical considerations within a professional services environment.
- Familiarity with or willingness to learn AI platforms (e.g., Microsoft Copilot, ChatGPT, or similar tools) and incorporate them responsibly into day-to-day workflows to enhance daily work tasks as appropriate and/or directed.
- Proactive approach to learning and adapting to emerging AI and related technologies and contributes to a culture of innovation.
The expected pay range for this position is:
$36.6 - $49.27 Per hour
Actual pay will be adjusted based on experience, location, and other job-related factors permitted by law.
