Description

The Victim Witness Program Administrative Assistant provides clerical support to victims and witnesses of crimes, assisting with various tasks related to the criminal justice process, and ensuring efficient program operations. They are responsible for duties such as processing payment vouchers to the VA Supreme Court for forensic nurse exams, entering data in the DCJS VSDCS (Victim Services Data Collection System) program and other tasks as needed. 

Essential Duties

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties necessary to deliver services to customers and citizens may be assigned.

  • Accurately transfers pertinent information from case files to case management system; 
  • Prepares and processes forensic nurse exams vouchers to the Virginia Supreme Court 
  • Enters relevant data into the Department of Criminal Justice Services, Victim Services Data Collection System (VSDCS); and,
  • Performs other duties as assigned. 

ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:
  • Other duties to provide direct or indirect service to the citizens may be assigned.
  • When unusual situations occur and/or the City Manager declares a State of Emergency, all City employees may be required to accept special assignments and perform as needed to ensure appropriate service delivery.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Minimum Education and Experience Required

QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. High school diploma or GED and at least two years of experience in clerical work, including proficiency in Word and Microsoft, applications is required. Basic knowledge of legal terminology and processes and knowledge of the criminal justice system and domestic violence, sexual assault, or stalking is highly desirable but not required. 

ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES 
Ability to type accurately approximately 45-50 words per minute without spelling, grammatical, or typographical errors; correctly routes correspondence; accurately proofreads typewritten and printed materials; accurately maintains records and files; effectively and diplomatically communicates orally with other employees and the general public; ability to transfer handwritten information from case files to computerized case management system accurately.  

Additional Requirements

Must successfully complete IS100 and IS700 National Incident Management (NIMS) training within 90 days of employment.  May also be required to complete higher levels of NIMS training as determined appropriate for the position.

  • $20 - $22/hour
