Duties You will serve as a Merchant Mariner Application Professional Qualification Evaluator and be responsible for providing qualification evaluations and determines applicant eligibility for vessel operation credentials. The position plays a key role reviewing merchant mariner applications to ensure regulatory requirements are verified and insufficient requirements are identified and relayed to applicants. Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team. Typical work assignments include: Reviews merchant mariner applications for issuance of requested Merchant Mariner Credentials Provides written and oral accurate, and precise replies to agencies, maritime academies, maritime schools, other professional maritime organizations, applicants, and the public on technical knowledge processes, production and other aspects of credentialing Determines the applicability and reasonableness of legal guidelines against individual mariner history in accordance with 46 CFR and other applicable resources Responsible for quality assurance and ensures work performed IAW applicable Coast Guard Quality Management System and guidance.
