Job Summary

At the AK Law Firm: Injury Lawyers, a Houston-based Personal Injury Law Firm, we provide exceptional legal representation for those who have been injured due to the negligence of others. AK Law Firm is seeking a highly motivated Personal Injury Pre-Litigation Liens and Release Coordinator to join our growing team. Overview

Lien Specialist / Release Coordinator. This hybrid role plays a critical part in the post-settlement process by ensuring timely resolution of medical liens and coordinating the execution and tracking of settlement releases. Additional duties and responsibilities as determined by management.

 

Key Responsibilities

Lien Specialist Duties- Identify all potential lienholders including healthcare providers, Medicaid/Medicare, health insurance, ERISA plans, and third-party lienholders.- Request, track, and verify balances from lienholders.- Prepare and maintain detailed lien summaries and documentation in case management software.- Work closely with attorneys, clients, and providers to ensure liens are resolved before disbursement.- Respond to lien-related inquiries from clients and provide clear explanations of outstanding obligations.- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and contractual lien laws and regulations.

Release Coordinator Duties- Draft and review settlement release documents and related correspondence.- Confirm the accuracy of release terms, party names, and settlement amounts.- Coordinate execution of releases by clients, attorneys, and opposing parties.- Track the status of releases and follow up to ensure timely return of executed documents.- Maintain organized records of all signed releases and related settlement documents.

Administrative Legal Responsibilities

  • Communicate with clients and adjusters consistently and professionally
  • Update case management system
  • Monitor clients' progress and adjust care plans as needed
  • Assist case managers with overflow case loads
  • Assist with liens and reductions task
  • Accurately prepare case details for liability, PIP, and UIM demand letters
  • Ensures that records requests are submitted for all cases
  • Coordinate with medical providers for treatment and obtaining records
  • Negotiate with medical providers and adjusters
  • Other duties as assigned

 

Liens and Reduction Responsibilities – Highlights

  • Verify and send out medical & lien reductions according to what is outlined in the settlement breakdown
  • Review and analyze legal bills to ensure accuracy and prevent over billing.
  • Follow up with reductions submitted for prompt closing of the case.
  • Negotiate fee agreements and other terms with outside counsel.
  • Keep track of all completed work for accounting and business purposes.
  • Follow up with the assigned Case Manager on cases that have closed to ensure they are ready to be processed with the accounting department.
  • Schedule delivery of client checks in person or via mail.

 

Qualifications

  • Minimum 2-year experience as a paralegal or case manager
  • Preferred 3 years' experience in pre-litigation at a plaintiff's personal injury firm
  • Familiarity with legal procedures, terminology, and medical billing terminology
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Highly organized with document management experience
  • Comfortable Microsoft Office and case management software
  • Ability to multitask and work well under pressure
  • A polished and professional appearance is essential to ensure that you represent our firm effectively and uphold our commitment to exceptional service.
  • Experience managing caseload in Filevine

 

Education Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED; college degree or paralegal certification a plus
