The Manager, Legal Support Personnel will oversee and manage the legal support staff, including practice assistants, practice coordinators, and paralegals in the New York Office. This role is crucial in ensuring smooth operation by coordinating assignments, managing schedules, and providing leadership to the support team. This position reports to the Senior Manager, Office Administration and Legal Support Personnel based in Los Angeles. The role is hybrid and will require presence in the office at least four days per week.
Support Senior Manager with national projects and initiatives related to legal support personnel
Monitor utilization, billable and non-billable time, workload distribution, and delivery of quality work product
Establish and maintain successful working relationships with practice leadership, attorneys, and administrative leadership to provide the best resources to meet their business goals
Assess legal support personnel skillset so assigned work plays to their strength areas and provide resources and training for areas that require development
Collaborate with the HR, IT, office administration, and other teams to develop plans for onboarding and training of legal support personnel
Monitor and approve timecards, overtime, and PTO for LSP under your supervision
Coordinate vacation requests and arrange for coverage during absences
Address personnel issues in conjunction with Human Resources Manager (including performance management, LOAs, and on-boarding/off-boarding)
Conduct regular performance reviews and provide constructive feedback
Drive annual evaluation process for LSP, compile feedback from attorneys, and hold productive feedback meetings
Promote a culture of honesty and integrity; maintain confidentiality
Stay knowledgeable of the latest trends and developments in the legal support industry through ALA and other memberships
Actively participates in ad hoc working groups for national operational initiatives
Proactively identify the need for national and local operational improvements to meet the changing needs of the global legal practice
Bachelor’s degree preferred
Prior law firm experience and minimum 5 of supervisory experience
Ability to work discreetly with confidential information and situations
Ability to quickly identify and analyze issues and problems; recommend and implement solutions; and respond effectively to sensitive inquiries and complaints
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Practices a spirit of continuous improvement
Ability to multi-task with excellent organizational skills
Ability to respond calmly, efficiently, and effectively in stressful situations
Excellent problem solving and follow-through
Responsive, and ability to be available, including outside of regular business hours in an emergency or high priority situation

Employees are entitled to compensation commensurate with skill and experience. The full time base annual salary for this position in the New York City market is expected to range between $120,000 and $150,000. This range represents the firm’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting for a position in New York City. Salaries in other markets will vary depending on market data. Bonus opportunities are non-guaranteed and are dependent upon individual and firm performance.
