The South Dakota Department of Game, Fish & Parks is seeking a full-time Attorney to serve and provide legal services to department staff and associated boards and commissions. This position reports to the General Counsel and is supported by a legal assistant.

Licenses and Certifications:

• Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
• An active license in good standing with the State Bar of South Dakota, or the ability to obtain licensure promptly.

The Ideal Candidate Will Have:


A strong work ethic, excellent legal research, writing, and analytical skills, and meaningful communication and interpersonal abilities.

Knowledge of:

• statutes applicable to administrative hearings, procedures, and rules;
• rules of evidence and procedure.

Skill to:

• prepare and analyze legal documents and writing;
• draft and review contracts, leases, and easements;
• identify and apply legal principles;
• corroborate with department staff in drafting statutes and administrative rules.

Ability to:

• provide legal advice and counsel to department staff;
• express oneself clearly and concisely, orally and in writing.
