The South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy (Academy), General Counsel Unit is currently seeking a part-time attorney/instructor to perform the following job functions.
- Provide instruction of legal principles to students in Basic Law Enforcement, Basic Detention, and Limited Duty classes.
- Perform other projects and duties as assigned by the chief general counsel.
- Minimum and Additional Requirements
- Juris doctorate degree from an accredited law school and
- Active member of the SC Bar
- Preferred Qualifications
Although not required, we prefer that the candidates also have the following qualifications.
- Instructional experience
- Trial experience

- Ability to interpret and apply laws and judicial decisions
- Familiar with the dynamics of the judicial process
- Personality and experience to work effectively in the classroom
- Knowledge of SC criminal and civil laws as they relate to law enforcement
- Knowledge of federal and state constitutional rulings
- Knowledge of court rules of procedure
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Exercise good judgement and discretion
- Ability to establish professional relationships
- Ability to work some holidays, as needed
