Valley County is seeking a highly motivated and compassionate professional to fill the dual-function role of Victim Witness Coordinator / Legal Assistant. This position serves as a critical pillar within the Prosecuting Attorney’s Office, providing essential support to the Chief Deputy Prosecutor while acting as a steadfast advocate for crime victims and witnesses navigating the Idaho judicial system.

The Victim Witness Coordinator / Legal Assistant is responsible for guiding victims through the legal process, ensuring they are informed of their constitutional rights, and facilitating their access to community resources. Simultaneously, this individual provides high-level administrative and legal support to the prosecution team. The role requires a high degree of independent judgment, initiative, and the ability to maintain strict confidentiality in a sensitive legal environment.
Victim Advocacy and Coordination
The successful candidate serves as the primary liaison between victims and the Prosecuting Attorney’s office. They are responsible for notifying victims of their statutory rights, assisting with compensation and restitution applications, and explaining the complexities of court proceedings. This individual maintains consistent contact with victims to provide updates on hearing dates, coordinates appointments with relevant agencies, and offers direct support by accompanying victims to court proceedings and parole hearings.
Legal and Administrative Support
In the capacity of Legal Assistant, the individual manages the technical lifecycle of criminal cases. Responsibilities include:- Document Management: Preparing and formatting legal documents, performing redactions, and providing discovery in strict accordance with Idaho Code Rule 16.
- Operational Oversight: Monitoring office compliance with legal deadlines and "speedy trial" requirements, overseeing outstanding warrants, and managing the National database inputs.
- Case & Evidence Handling: Researching and gathering evidence, maintaining a precise case management system, and ensuring evidentiary materials are archived or disposed of per retention policies.
- Office Coordination: Managing the Chief Deputy Prosecutor’s calendar, maintaining the law library, overseeing office inventory, and fostering effective working relationships with outside agencies and clerk staff.

Valley County is looking for a detail-oriented professional who can perform a wide variety of tasks with accuracy and speed under the pressure of time-sensitive deadlines.- Education and Experience: An Associate degree or certification in Paralegal Studies is preferred. Experience within a legal office environment is highly valued.
- Technical Knowledge: A strong understanding of Idaho criminal proceedings, victim rights, and judicial terminology is essential. Candidates should possess intermediate computer skills and be proficient with standard office equipment and software interfaces (such as iCourt).
- Communication and Temperament: The role requires the ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of individuals, often in crisis. The ideal candidate is an empathetic listener who can articulate complex ideas clearly in the English language while maintaining a professional demeanor.
- Problem-Solving: The candidate must demonstrate integrity and ingenuity, showing the ability to work independently under general supervision while remaining a collaborative team player.
