
JD Group North America is looking for a proactive In-House Employment Lawyer to join our fast-growing Legal team. You’ll support our leading sports fashion retail brands—JD Finish Line, Hibbett, DTLR, and Shoe Palace—spanning 2,500+ stores and 40,000+ employees across the U.S., territories, and Canada.
In this high-impact role, you’ll partner with HR, Operations, and leadership to provide clear, practical guidance on employment law and compliance. You’ll lead investigations, employee relations matters, discipline and terminations, regulatory inquiries, litigation, and pre-litigation disputes. Success requires strong knowledge of multi-state employment laws, especially in retail and hourly workforce settings, plus the ability to work confidently in a fast-paced, high-growth environment.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
Advise on a broad range of employment law matters, including hiring, workplace conduct, wage and hour, performance management, terminations, leaves, accommodations, and benefits.
Develop, update, and enforce compliant employment policies, handbooks, and procedures across multiple jurisdictions.
Lead and support internal investigations into workplace complaints, providing clear recommendations and risk assessments.
Partner with HR, Operations, and leadership to align employment practices with legal requirements and business strategy.
Manage disputes through mediation, arbitration, and agency matters (EEOC, DOL, state/local), and oversee outside counsel when needed.
Draft, review, and negotiate employment-related agreements (offer letters, executive contracts, separation agreements, restrictive covenants, etc.).
Provide training to HR and leaders on employment law topics such as anti-harassment, accommodations, wage and hour compliance, and legal updates.
Stay current on labor and employment law developments, ensuring timely updates and compliance across the organization.
Advise on employment aspects of organizational changes, including reorganizations, acquisitions, reductions-in-force, and remote work policies.

QUALIFICATIONS
- Law degree from an accredited law school. Licensed to practice law and in good standing in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
- 5+ years of related experience.
- Experience with Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, and Outlook.
- Experience with Workday preferred.
- CA and NYC employment law experience preferred, including experience with CA PAGA matters and NYC agency matters.
- Analytical thinking, risk management, and strategic agility skills are needed.
