Weaver Companies is seeking a Corporate Counsel to join our dynamic legal team. The ideal candidate will have 3-5 years’ practice experience focusing on reviewing, drafting, and negotiating a variety of agreements. Although not required, the ideal candidate will have in-house experience, familiarity with construction and design professionals contracting (solid waste industry experience a plus), as well as corporate generalist acumen (corporate law, employment law, insurance claims, litigation management, real estate, etc.).
A Successful Candidate Will:
- Be comfortable with drafting, editing, and negotiating a high volume of contracts.
- Possess an understanding of in-house legal team operations, document management, and the ability to support and participate in harmonizing technology, people, and process.
- Be able to collaborate well with stakeholders at every level.
Responsibilities Include:
- Provide direct support to the Company’s technical professionals (engineering and construction) regarding client and subcontract agreements.
- Review, analyze, negotiate, draft, and approve contracts, NDAs, leases, policies, correspondence, educational materials, and other documents.
- Participate in the continued implementation of our tech-enabled, business-oriented legal support team.
Job Qualifications:
- Law degree and admitted in good standing with a state bar, preferably Illinois.
- Maintain the requirements for bar license by attending necessary continuing legal education courses, with a study emphasis in construction, corporate law, human resources, insurance, litigation, and real estate.
- Outstanding communication skills, including written, verbal, and interpersonal skills.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, high activity environment, and able to handle ambiguity, juggle many matters at once, and quickly shift from one situation or task to another.
- Emphasis on negotiating client and subcontract agreements, design and/or construction contracts, insurance and litigation matters flowing from the same, familiarity with lien law, contract template development and management.
- Experience with corporate governance and compliance, state registrations and licensing, corporate structure and LLC formalities.
- Exceptional organizational and document management skills, the ability to create SOPs and deploy digital tools to support a legal team as it supports its organization.
- Ability to work independently and with minimal supervision.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, (Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint), and Adobe Acrobat
