Job Description

Overview

LRP Media Group is seeking a Federal Reporter for our subscription-based websites. The Reporter is responsible for consistently generating story ideas, working to secure interview sources daily, and writing compliance-driven and best-practice articles for a niche audience of HR professionals, EEO professionals, attorneys, and other stakeholders.

 

This position is remote in the Washington, D.C. area. 

Responsibilities
  • Submit weekly HR compliance-driven articles based on developments from the White House, Congress, and federal agencies.
  • Cover breaking news, agency press conferences, congressional hearings, and related HR and EEO conferences.
  • Write profile articles on key federal officials, lawmakers, and leaders in the field.
  • Relentlessly find and develop sources and manage relationships with HR and EEO professionals, attorneys, agency press officers, and Capitol Hill staffers.
  • Generate story ideas to contribute to our subscription-based websites and products.
  • Stay up to date with the latest trends, developments, and best practices in federal HR and EEO. Understand complex regulations and rules and translate their impact for our subscribers.
  • Ability to compile a weekly column on the latest news from the Washington, D.C., area of interest to our subscribers.
  • Self-edit and proofread content to ensure accuracy, clarity, and consistency.
  • Travel up to five days a year to attend annual conferences as needed.

Position Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in communications/journalism or related field.
  • Able to attend events in Washington, D.C., on short notice. Must work in the Washington D.C. area.  
  • 2+ years of reporting experience with demonstrated knowledge of AP style.
  • Proven ability to locate sources, generate story ideas, and interview expert sources in person and virtually.
  • Strong interviewing and writing skills and the ability to translate complex information into practical and engaging content for subscribers.
  • Understands or is willing to learn the federal HR and EEO fields vernacular.
  • Ability to multitask, work independently, meet deadlines, and maintain high productivity without sacrificing quality.
