Job Description

The Columbus office of BakerHostetler is seeking an associate with experience in employee benefits and executive compensation law. The successful candidate will have broad experience advising on employee benefits matters, including qualified and non-qualified retirement plans, health and welfare plans, and executive compensation, as well as providing employee benefits due diligence and transition support in mergers and acquisitions.

Preferred Qualifications Include:
• 1-4 years of experience in employee benefits and executive compensation law
• Experience advising on qualified and non-qualified retirement plans, health and welfare plans, and executive compensation
• Experience with employee benefits due diligence and transition matters in mergers and acquisitions
• Strong knowledge of ERISA, the Internal Revenue Code, the Affordable Care Act, and other applicable federal and state laws and regulations
• Experience drafting and negotiating benefits-related agreements and documents, including plan documents, service provider agreements, employee communications, and related materials
• Experience collaborating with legal, human resources, and finance teams regarding benefits administration, fiduciary, and legal compliance matters
• Excellent verbal and written communication and negotiation skills
• A strong academic record, having earned a J.D. from a nationally recognized and accredited law school 
• Must be admitted to practice law in the State of Ohio
