Caterpillar seeks a highly motivated and experienced attorney to serve as Senior Corporate Counsel, Fair Competition / Antitrust in Dallas, Texas or Peoria, Illinois. Working with a talented and supportive team, this attorney will provide advice and guidance on competition matters for Caterpillar throughout the world including issues related to M&A, technological development, distribution, and counseling on a sophisticated and international dealer model. This is a specialist role with opportunities to advise on and help develop the company’s legal position and strategy on competition matters throughout the world. This is an outstanding opportunity for an experienced competition / antitrust attorney to join a world-class legal team and work on sophisticated, global issues in an exciting, fast-paced environment.
What You Will Do:
- Provide advice and guidance on current and emerging competition regulations and developments
- Manage and support Caterpillar’s global antitrust / competition law compliance program
- Handle competition / antitrust legal matters involving sales through dealer networks; direct sales; technology agreements; mergers & acquisitions; joint ventures; strategic alliances; franchising; hiring; and more
- Manage M&A related competition filings as well as responses to competition inquiries by regulators and governments throughout the world; support the development and execution of legal strategy relating to review of mergers and acquisitions by antitrust regulators
Basic Qualifications:
- J.D. degree (or foreign equivalent) and active membership in at least one U.S. state bar
- 4+ years of relevant legal experience working primarily on antitrust and competition law matters (at a law firm, in government, and/or in-house)
- Demonstrable experience developing practical approaches to complex legal challenges and providing effective legal advice to senior level managers in an organization
- Ability to communicate and interact effectively with clients at all levels in the organization and with other lawyers, both in-house and in private practice

- Decision Making and Critical Thinking: Knowledge of the decision-making process and associated tools and techniques; ability to accurately analyze situations and reach productive decisions based on informed judgment
- Effective Communications: Understanding of effective communication concepts, tools and techniques; ability to effectively transmit, receive, and accurately interpret ideas, information, and needs through the application of appropriate communication behaviors
- Problem Solving: Knowledge of approaches, tools, techniques for recognizing, anticipating, and resolving organizational, operational or process problems; ability to apply knowledge of problem solving appropriately to diverse situations
- Legal Analysis: Knowledge of methods and tools used in legal analysis; ability to read, interpret and draw accurate conclusions from both legal and factual information
Top Candidates Will Also Have:
- Excellent interpersonal skills with an absolute commitment to professionalism and collegiality
- Strong presentation skills with a calm, confident, practical and solutions-oriented approach
- Flexibility to work on broad range of legal matters
- Significant experience advising clients on dealer/distribution related issues, with a strong preference for experience advising companies with an international presence
- Experience working with complex supply chain and distribution structures
- Experience with EU competition laws and regulators and/or other international jurisdictions

- The primary locations for this position are Dallas, TX or Peoria, IL.

Summary Pay Range:
$160,200.00 - $240,240.00Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
