SENIOR COUNSEL - DBH

 


Company Overview:

Diamond Baseball Holdings (DBH) was formed in 2021 to support, promote, and enhance Minor League Baseball through professional management, best practices, innovation, and investment. We are seeking a dynamic Senior Counsel to collaborate with our baseball clubs and corporate team to optimize transactions, minimize risks, and ensure we create a culture of compliance. 

 

Job Summary:
 

Responsible for providing practical, day-to-day legal support across Diamond Baseball Holdings, LLC and its controlled affiliates. Serve as a broad-based in-house legal partner to DBH teams and the corporate office, handling a wide range of matters with a hands-on, solutions-oriented approach. This role will support contract drafting and negotiation of a variety of commercial agreements, corporate governance, compliance, risk management, policy development, employment-related matters, and general operational issues that arise across the business. The ideal candidate will be a skilled corporate generalist who is comfortable working across functions, prioritizing effectively, and navigating novel issues in a fast-moving environment. Employment law experience is strongly preferred. The Senior Counsel will report to the General Counsel.


 

Essential Functions:
 

  • Contract negotiation and drafting.
  • MLB PDL regulations and governance.
  • Corporate governance.
    • Advise on a broad range of legal and business matters, including sponsorships, labor and employment, real estate, corporate governance, compliance, risk management, privacy, and general operational issues.
  • Develop and oversee compliance function (in conjunction with cross-functional teams).
  • Regular interaction and advisement of Corporate and Club Senior Management teams.
  • Coordinate and manage use of outside counsel where appropriate.
  • Ensure that company policies are compliant with law in all relevant jurisdictions and are properly documented and applied.

 

Other Duties/Responsibilities:
 

  • Maintain strong relationships with DBH corporate team, department heads, and individual team leadership.
  • Instill and enforce a culture of compliance and transparency.
  • Ensure that the legal department acts as a facilitator of business transactions and creative problem solver.
  • Develop a thorough understanding of MLB PDL rules and regulations, including the PDL Licenses, PDL Operating Guidelines and PDL Governance Agreements.
  • Assist in developing protocols for efficient deployment of the legal department, including practical guidelines for identifying issues, circumstances and actions that require legal department review and approval.
  • Conduct periodic employee training sessions with respect to company policies, and programs to promote awareness of legal issues and a culture of compliance.
  • Draft and prepare corporate policies as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

 

 



Qualifications

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • At least 8 years of experience practicing law.
  • Experience across multiple legal disciplines, with a focus on contract drafting and negotiation strongly preferred.
  • Experience in an in-house legal setting is preferred
  • Experience in the sports/entertainment industry is preferred but not required.
  • Experience with risk management is preferred.
  • Ability to make timely, nuanced recommendations for business decisions based on reasoned legal analysis and the strategic objectives of the organization.
  • High level of commitment to quality work product and organizational ethics, integrity and compliance.
  • Ability to work effectively and independently in a fast paced, team environment with a business-focused approach Proficient with Microsoft applications including, but not limited to, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, and must be able to effectively manage communications and projects with a remote workforce.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and strong analytical and critical thinking skills.

Salary
  • $115,000 - $215,000
