State Compensation Insurance Fund’s Employee Claims Department - Legal Unit is seeking applicants for an Attorney IV position. This Legal Unit will handle the claims of State Fund employees. This workload will require strict confidentiality, the utmost tact and diplomacy, and a commitment to excellent customer service. In addition to handling litigated cases, the attorney assigned to this unit will also be responsible for handling referrals on non-litigated claims, participating in JRRs and handling liens.
The Attorney IV represents State Fund in handling/litigating the more complex, sensitive, and difficult** workers’ compensation cases and assignments necessary to defend State Fund.
Under the direction of the Assistant Chief Counsel, you will:
- Work closely with internal and external clients, draft pleadings and correspondences, conduct discovery, make appearances, and negotiate and draft settlements.
- Handle/litigate the more complex and sensitive State Fund employee workers’ compensation claims.
- Make virtual and in-person appearances and litigate in multiple and varied venues of the Workers’ Compensation Appeals Board.
- Participate in "project" work such as providing training to others, specialized assignments, or conducting consolidated litigation involving the coordination of multiple parties and issues as necessary.
This position will require in-person and virtual appearances as needed. Travel may be required to WCAB District Offices throughout the state. There is separate posting for a position located in Southern California.
These positions can be filled in the following locations: Fresno, Alameda, Shasta, Sonoma, Sacramento, Monterey, San Francisco, and San Joaquin county.

Salary- $11,644 - $15,627/month
