Responsibilities

The Managing Director provides strategic leadership across client engagements, business development, talent development, and operational performance. This role serves as a senior advisor to clients, a subject matter expert within the firm, and a key driver of growth, quality, and innovation. The Managing Director ensures exceptional client service, advances firm strategy, develops the next generation of leaders, and upholds the highest professional standards.

 

Essential Functions and Primary Duties

  • Serve as the primary client contact and lead the planning, supervision, and execution of full engagements with limited oversight.
  • Develop project strategies, timelines, budgets, and deliverables; ensure work is completed on time and within scope.
  • Coordinate multi-disciplinary service teams and ensure compliance with engagement guidelines, confidentiality standards, NDAs, and firm policies.
  • Prepare testimony-quality reports, presentations, and analyses; ensure deliverables meet legal, regulatory, and industry standards.
  • Manage billing, forecast revenue, identify scope changes, and monitor profitability, WIP, and collections. 
  • Manage risk throughout client acceptance and engagement lifecycle, including independence considerations.
  • Hold and maintain a CPA (required) and ideally an additional professional credential (CFE, ABV, ASA, CFF).
  • Serve as a recognized expert in one or more specialty areas such as valuation, civil litigation, fraud, family law, or restructuring.
  • Stay current with relevant case law, technical standards, and industry trends; anticipate changes and guide clients accordingly.
  • Lead or contribute to internal and external training, including speaking engagements, presentations, and thought leadership.
  • Originate and expand business through client relationships, networking, referral sources, and external visibility.
  • Set measurable personal business development goals and create a $1.25M+ book of business.
  • Identify new engagement opportunities with existing clients and participate in proposal development and RFP responses.
  • Represent the firm at industry events, conferences, and panels.
  • Build, mentor, and lead high-performing teams; review work for accuracy, completeness, and professional standards.
  • Provide coaching and structured development for Managers, Senior Managers, and other staff.
  • Participate in recruitment efforts and identify strong candidates for the practice.
  • Create opportunities for team members to take on stretch roles, develop expertise, and grow their careers.
  • Promote diversity, inclusion, and belonging; adapt leadership to varied work styles and backgrounds.
  • Foster collaboration, celebrate team successes, and maintain high engagement and morale.
  • Contribute to the firm's broader strategic initiatives, quality standards, and operational improvements.
  • Promote the use of analytics, AI tools, and emerging technologies to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
  • Demonstrate critical thinking in solving complex technical and business problems; model inquiry-driven problem-solving for senior team members.
  • Support change initiatives across the practice and help align team goals with firmwide strategy.
  • Manage conflict constructively and involve stakeholders appropriately.
  • Identify change needs, lead teams through transition, and support firm-wide change initiatives.
  • Model healthy work-life integration and support others in doing the same.


Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications 

  • Bachelor's degree 
  • 10 years of experience in public accounting or related field
  • 10 years supervisory experience
  • Ability to manage deadlines, work on multiple assignments and prioritize each assignment as necessary
  • Proficient use of applicable technology
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate verbally and in writing throughout all levels of organization, both internally and externally
  • Proven high level of business integrity, client service and leadership skills
  • Must be able to travel based on client and business needs
