
Job Title: Paralegal
Department: Matrimonial/Family
Reports To: Matrimonial/Family Unit Supervisors
Summary: The 32BJ Legal Services Fund provides legal advice and representation to eligible 32BJ members and their eligible dependents. The Matrimonial/Family Paralegal will assist the Matrimonial Unit by meeting with clients, obtaining client information, conducting legal research, drafting pleadings, motions, and other related court filings; preparing uncontested divorce filings, and other similar tasks and responsibilities as needed. This position is ideal for a detail oriented, self-starter looking to expand their knowledge of matrimonial and family law.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Conduct and document client interviews.
- Identify needed documentation/evidence and assist clients to gather and organize supporting documentation.
- Draft pleadings, forms, motions, and other relevant documentation under the supervision of an attorney.
- Prepare divorce filings under the supervision of an attorney.
- Conduct research on matrimonial law and procedures.
- Prepare correspondence and memoranda.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of all work performed.
- Update case files timely including maintaining notes and uploading all relevant documentation into case management software, scanning documents, and other similar duties as necessary to maintain client files.
- Remain apprised of policy, law and legal developments sufficient to properly prepare legal documents
- Research public records online and at court clerks offices and administrative agencies
- Perform translation as required
- Must be detail-oriented and able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications:
- B.A Degree required.
- Experience as a Paralegal handling family or matrimonial matters or equivalent training and experience preferred.
- Bilingual English/Spanish proficiency required.
- Superior writing/editing skills.
- Adept with MS Office and expertise with computer assisted legal resources required.
- Notary Public License preferred.
- Ability to maintain professional appearance, workspace, and demeanor as a representative of the Legal Services Fund
- Ability to work collaboratively and handle multiple demands in a busy environment
- Ability to effectively communicate with clients, as well as with professional, technical and administrative stakeholders
- Ability to travel to courts and agencies to file and retrieve documents
