
Purpose of Role:
The Family Law Department at Mandelbaum Barrett PC is seeking a knowledgeable and dependable Legal Assistant to support the Senior Partner of the department. This role is essential to the smooth day-to-day functioning of a busy and fast-paced family law practice. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of family law terminology, excellent organizational skills, keen attention to detail, and a professional approach to managing multiple priorities and sensitive legal matters with care and efficiency, all while working closely with the Senior Partner to meet the needs of the practice.
Responsibilities:
- Provide direct and dedicated support to the Senior Partner of the Family Law Department, including heavy typing, managing calendars, deadlines, and appointments.
- Serve as backup support to other attorneys in the department as needed.
- Scan, file, and email documents to courts and clients, maintaining accurate and organized records.
- Coordinate meetings and appointments, managing schedules and logistical details.
- Draft legal documents under attorney supervision and conduct investigative research to support case preparation.
- Communicate directly with clients, providing support throughout the legal process, including assisting with electronic filing (e-filing) of court documents.
- Schedule and coordinate court appearances, hearings, and related deadlines.
- Monitor case timelines and proactively flag upcoming deadlines or required actions.
- Liaise with court personnel and other law firms when necessary.
- Assist with client billing, preparing reports, and following up on collections as needed.
Qualifications and Required Skills:
- Minimum of three (3) years of experience in family law.
- Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and Kofax.
- Excellent word processing and computer skills, with strong organizational and time-management abilities.
- Skilled in prioritizing and managing multiple projects, meeting deadlines, and following through on assignments.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Familiarity with New Jersey family law principles, court procedures, and rules of court.
- Ability to work effectively with clients experiencing personal crises or strained relationships.
- Proficiency with digital dictation tools.
- Willingness to work overtime as requested.
Compensation & Benefits: This position offers a salary range of $55,000 - $75,000 annually, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Final compensation will be determined based on factors such as experience, skills, and qualifications. Support staff may also be eligible for discretionary year-end bonuses and a merit-based increase. The posted salary range reflects the base pay range for this position.
