Job Description
- Job Responsibilities
- Under general supervision, primarily provides legal advice, counsel, and representation to the State, State agencies, and officials relating to civil litigation and other non-criminal matters.
- Provides legal advice, counsel, and services to the State and, as directed, to State agencies, public officials, and political subdivisions of the State.
- Manages caseload, researches, and prepares high-quality documents.
- Represents the State, and as directed, State agencies, public officials, and political subdivisions of the State, and its interests in contested matters by appearing in all courts at all levels.
- Coordinates the enforcement of the South Carolina Underground Facility Damage Prevention Act.
- Serves as extradition hearing officer for the State of South Carolina.
- Serves as attorney to the State Employee Grievance Committee.
- Serves as coordinator for all FOIA requests sent to the Attorney General’s Office, and provides legal advice and counsel to all employees of the Office on all matters relating to FOIA.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

- Minimum and Additional Requirements
A Juris Doctor or its equivalent from an accredited law school and five years of experience as a practicing attorney.
Necessary Requirement: Must be a member and in good standing with the South Carolina Bar. Must satisfy Rule 403 requirements.
Additional Requirements:- Position may require overnight travel.
- Position may require the employee to work evenings and weekends.
- Position requires a valid driver's license.
- Position may be required to travel and transport files.
- Preferred Qualifications
Must have knowledge and ability to interpret the laws of South Carolina. Must possess excellent written and oral communication skills. Some overnight travel may be required.
