Job Summary
The Vail Resorts’ legal team is searching for an Employment Counsel to join our team! As a collaborative team, we act as strategic partners to our Human Resources department and provide labor and employment-law advice to all divisions of the organization. The Employment Counsel role requires an agile and flexible problem solver, who can quickly learn new areas of the law and the business. We are looking for a candidate that has a minimum of 4 years of employment law experience and has a demonstrated ability to handle a multitude of legal questions by providing practical solutions. This team member will communicate confidently and clearly with the legal team and internal clients at all levels of the business, handle opposing priorities, and thrive in a fast paced environment. Successful candidates will also demonstrate the ability to successfully adapt to evolving circumstances and thrive working both independently and collaboratively.
Job Responsibilities
- Provide advice, counsel and support to the Labor and Employment Legal Team, Human Resources (HR), Employment Investigations, HR Compliance, HR Programs, and senior leaders on legal matters, including, but not limited to, accommodations, disciplinary matters, compensation, leaves of absences, wage and hour, EEO requirements, discrimination, harassment, retaliation, social media, privacy, hiring and separations, and policies and procedures in order to reduce legal risk to the company
- Oversee EEOC and state employment-related agency complaints and investigations
- Monitor state and federal employment legislation and governmental agency enforcement priorities and advise of developments that may or will impact the organization
- Prepare and present trainings to HR and business leaders
- Effectively and efficiently supervise and/or partner with internal and outside counsel in labor and employment-related litigation and regulatory proceedings
- Adhere to, support, and actively promote the Mission, Values, standards and goals of the company and the legal department
- Other duties as necessary and assigned
Job Qualifications
- JD from accredited law school and active state bar license required
- Minimum 4 years’ legal experience, specifically focused in employment law, with significant time dedicated to advice and counseling
- Demonstrated understanding of federal and state labor and employment laws, regulations, and agencies, including Title VII, ADA, ADEA, FLSA, FMLA, EEOC, and state agencies
- Creative problem solver with strong organizational and time management skills and the ability to simultaneously handle numerous varied assignments
- Demonstrated ability to work under high pressure conditions, meet aggressive deadlines, and to effectively handle urgent situations with patience and tact
- High integrity and capable of building trust and credibility quickly and providing support for complex and challenging business opportunities
- Standout colleague with the proven ability to develop and maintain positive and productive relationships with diverse groups of individuals
- Impeccable interpersonal communication and customer service orientation
- Ability to succeed working both independently and as part of a collaborative team
- A commitment to personal and professional growth, strong judgement, passion and enthusiasm, humility, and receptivity to feedback culture

- Experience working in a sophisticated in-house legal department
- Experience working with major corporations, either as in-house or outside counsel
- Litigation and regulatory investigation experience
- Experience with labor relations and traditional labor

The budgeted range starts at $112,300 - $140,400 + annual bonus. Actual pay will be adjusted based on experience.
