Job Description

The U.S. Committee for Refugees and Immigrants (USCRI), established in 1911, is a nongovernmental, not-for-profit international organization dedicated to addressing the needs and rights of refugees and immigrants. USCRI, working with nearly 200 affiliates, provides legal, social, and health services to refugees, unaccompanied migrating children, trafficking survivors, and other immigrants in all 50 states, El Salvador, Honduras, Kenya, and Mexico. OVERVIEW

Reporting to the Senior Director, Humanitarian Legal Services, the Senior Attorney will act as the internal program manager for any assigned grants. They will be responsible for working across departments as needed and within Legal Services to assist in grant compliance.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide programmatic support to the assigned legal services programs as directed
  • Develop and maintain database of assigned programs to ensure compliance with grant requirements
  • Participate in program meetings and assist with tracking program deliverables
  • Ensure assigned program data reports are prepared accurately for timely submission
  • Coordinate with staff attorneys and legal assistants to provide direction as needed for program deliverables
  • Provide direct supervision to any assigned staff members 
  • Centralize clients, legal cases, and case notes in USCRI’s data management system
  • Represent a caseload of clients as determined by the Senior Director, to include conducting intake, providing legal consultation to determine eligibility for legal relief, preparing and submitting immigration applications, and representing clients at hearings, interviews, and other appointments as necessary
  • Conducting outreach, leading trainings, and participating in networking activities as needed
  • Maintain bar membership through continuing legal education; and
  • Other responsibilities as assigned by the Senior Director (or Associate Director)

REQUIREMENTS

  • J.D. with a valid license to practice law in the United States
  • Minimum of five years of immigration legal representation
  • Program and grant management experience
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including strong writing and demonstrated intercultural communication ability
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • High level of proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite or similar software and database programs.
  • Flexibility for evening and community-based work required
  • Positive attitude and willingness to be part of a team
