Risk Management Associate:


 The Risk Management Associate supports the Company’s insurance, claims, and enterprise risk management functions by coordinating insurance placements, assisting with claims, and collaborating with brokers, carriers, and internal teams. This role goes beyond administrative support, providing analytical insights, managing projects, and preparing reports for senior leadership, with a clear trajectory toward more advanced risk management responsibilities.

 

The Position:

 

Reporting to the Vice President of Risk Management, based in the New York City office, and working closely with the Chief Legal Officer, based in the Company’s San Juan Capistrano, California office, the Risk Management Associate will play a key role in supporting and advancing the Company’s Risk Management and Legal functions. 

 

This position provides hands-on support across the Company’s insurance, claims, and enterprise risk activities, working directly with internal stakeholders, insurance brokers, carriers, and third-party administrators. The Associate will actively participate in insurance program placements, claims management, contract reviews, and special projects, while helping to enhance the Company’s risk management infrastructure and processes.

 

The role requires strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities, provide recommendations, and deliver results in a fast-paced environment.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the annual renewal process by collecting exposure data, preparing renewal applications, and coordinating with brokers and carriers on renewal submissions.
  • Assist in the placement and administration of insurance programs, including property, casualty, management liability, environmental/pollution, development, and construction coverages.
  • Coordinate issuance of certificates of insurance, auto ID cards, and other evidence of coverage.
  • Partner with Risk Management and Development/Construction teams on new projects, including budgeting, policy placements (e.g., Wrap-Ups, Builders’ Risk, Contractors’ Pollution Liability), surety bonds, and ongoing project risk support.
  • Collaborate with insurance brokers, carriers and TPA’s concerning claims activity, including assisting with reporting, tracking and ultimate resolution of these matters. 
  • Support incident management and communication with external stakeholders, internal stakeholders and business units.
  • Work with legal on insurance-related litigation matters, including insurance-related discovery requests.
  • Maintain and analyze claims data, monitor loss trends, and provide insights to reduce frequency and severity of incidents.
  • Contribute to safety and loss control initiatives with brokers, carriers and project teams. 
  • Prepare reports, analyses, and presentations for senior leadership and investment committee members, as needed.
  • Support enterprise risk management (ERM) initiatives and special projects.
  • Monitor emerging risks, market trends, and regulatory changes, and assist in developing strategies to address them. 

 

Qualifications:

  • Four to six years of experience in risk management, insurance or related business field (broking, claims, underwriting, legal, finance.) 
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, risk management or related discipline preferred. 
  • Working knowledge of property, casualty, liability, and management liability insurance; familiarity with development/construction coverage and captives a plus. 
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook. 
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze data, communicate findings, and provide recommendations. 
  • Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent analytical, oral, and written communication skills. 
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work across business units and with external partners.
  • Ability to perform well in team settings and work collaboratively.
  • A growth mindset, with the ambition to develop into a more senior role within the Risk Management team.
