Essential Job Functions:
- Develop and oversee the company’s legal strategy to ensure compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.
- Develop company policies and training in accordance with California employment law in a variety of areas such as onboarding practices, wage and hourly, record keeping, payroll and other pertaing state specific requirements.
- Work closely with HR, Operations, Finance and other resources and personnel to proactively review and implement changes to policies and procedures across the organization.
- In partnership with HR, oversee the legal issues regarding the company’s “Let’s Connect” program aimed at creating a safe, anti-discriminatory, anti-bullying and diverse workplace. Monitor and address issues raised, working with a variety of employees across the organization. Use data from the “Let’s Connect” platform to introduce programs that mitigate risk and provide for a better work environment and experience for all employees.
- In partnership with HR, oversee the legal issues regarding the company’s “Leading with Care” program and assist management in identifying and implementing creative problem solving and effective solutions for employees whenever possible.
- In partnership with dedicated labor relations constituents help, when needed, with traditional labor law matters, potentially including collective bargaining and unfair labor practice charges. This is likely to be a comparatively small role.
- Advocate strongly for company’s position in variety of situations while striking appropriate balance between limiting company’s risk and preserving the company’s valued relationships with employees and customers.
- Represent the organization in legal proceedings, regulatory meetings, and partner with labor relations consultant during union negotiations.
- As needed, provide legal advice to management and HR regarding investigations, disciplinary actions, employee terminations and other similar matters.
- Develop and maintain ongoing relationships with, and provide practical legal advice to HR and Operations regarding training and program implementation.
- Provide analyses and recommendations to management teams regarding labor and employment matters; provide legal analysis and advice regarding resolution of disputes and claims.
- Act as strong advocate in conjunction with outside counsel, including with regard to litigation matters.
- Work with CFO and department leader to ensure compliance Total Reward Programs in relation to compensation and benefits plans and agreements.
Education and/or Experience:
- Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
- Licensed to practice law in relevant jurisdiction to include Bar Admissions in good standing.
- 10+ years of experience in a combination of law firm and/or in-house settings with a focus on advising on labor and employment matters and partnering with HR teams.
- Spanish language capabilities preferred.
- Work experience prior to attending law school preferred.
