Department Title: Undergrad Intern – Legal – Trust Administration
Location: The intern candidate must be able to commute into the New York City office each week.
Position Summary:
This internship will support our Trust Counsel and Trust Administration leadership team. Our team is seeking a student to join us for the summer to assist in conducting legal research on trust administration, developing best practices and policies, assisting with the development of internal processes, and document review.
For a law student interested in Trust & Estates law, this is an opportunity to see how governing documents translate into practice and the issues that arise. It is also an opportunity to see how risk is managed in a corporate environment.
Team Culture:
We are a smaller team of professionals working as a peer group to support Trust Officers and the fiduciary line of business. We work collaboratively to share expertise to manage risk for the company and advise our Trust team.
A Legal – Trust Administration Intern at Fiduciary Trust can expect to gain:
- Knowledge of the practical side of Trust Administration and how the terms of documents are implemented
- An understanding of state laws on trust administration and trust terminations.
- Exposure to complicated wealth planning techniques and documents.
Key Responsibilities May Include:
- Legal research on subjects such as directed trust statutes, trustee fee statutes, state-by-state statement disclosure requirements, and prudent investor statutes
- Review of trust agreements, nonjudicial settlement agreements, operating agreements
- Drafting of internal forms, policies and processes
Ideal Qualifications:
- 2L/3L law student or LL.M. candidate that has taken course(s) in Wills, Trusts and Estates and wealth transfer taxation and has an interest in the practice area
- Ability to work onsite in NYC
- Strong research and analytical skills
- Ability to communicate effectively with a supervisor and with colleagues in small groups
- Ability to organize and prioritize multiple projects

Compensation Range: This is a full-time internship where students will work approximately 35 hours per week and earn competitive hourly pay of $31 USD per hour. There are several factors taken into consideration in making compensation decisions including but not limited to location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
