Job Description

The State of California, Court of Appeal, Second Appellate District, Division Six in Ventura, CA, is accepting applications for a Court Systems Administrator. The position will be staffed at a level commensurate with the qualifications of the selected individual.

The Court Systems Administrator provides training and local support for the court’s information systems to ensure the continuity of hardware and software operations within the court.

The court is looking for a highly motivated self-starter who takes initiative and demonstrates a strong personal drive. The ideal applicant will possess exceptional personal integrity, excellent interpersonal and training skills, and a high degree of adaptability to perform the tasks required.

Duties

Operational Support:

  • Installs, operates, maintains, troubleshoots, and repairs servers, personal computers, and peripheral equipment using appropriate hand and diagnostic tools.
  • Monitors and maintains the court's local area network and other systems environments used in the court.
  • Maintains and provides backup, restore, and recovery support of application systems on a variety of platforms.
  • Monitors the court's connectivity to the judiciary's wide area network.
  • Maintains a library of backups and logs.
  • Provides for the archival and retrieval of information from backup library.
  • Maintains and updates manuals documenting operational procedures.
  • Maintains an inventory of computer equipment and associated supplies; and
  • Reads technical manuals and maintains technological currency through self-study as well as formal training.

User Support:

  • Provides training to employees on existing software and updates to software applications including but not limited to Microsoft products, Office 365, Windows OS, Word, Edge, Chrome and Outlook. Microsoft Teams, OneDrive, Adobe products, etc.
  • Responds to users' calls for hardware or software assistance and resolves problems; both onsite and remotely
  • Establishes and maintains user accounts on the system.
  • Provides user assistance on electronic mail and processing problems.
  • Assists in developing and revising macros and glossaries for the Court's use, as requested.
  • Participates in providing user training as requested; and
  • Assists in identifying and evaluating software and hardware products for the Court's use.

General Support:

  • Assists in the physical relocation of computer systems and equipment for the court.
  • Trains and coordinates training opportunities.
  • Support VOIP phone system.
  • Administer telephone, voice mail, and security systems.
  • Troubleshoot and maintain other electronic equipment such as copy, fax, scanner, and postage equipment.
  • Knowledge of basic principles of telecommunications, network environments, multiple platforms, and other system environments used at the court; and
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Due to the nature of the work, the position will at times require evening and weekend hours, statewide overnight travel, and availability for non-standard shifts. On-call hours are required.

Ability to:
  • Install, maintain, operate, troubleshoot, and repair personal computers, servers, and peripheral equipment.
  • Operate and monitor local area networks.
  • Maintain accurate records of work performed and update procedures manuals.
  • Use hand tools safely.
  • Provide a variety of user support services.
  • Train users in the use of software products
  • Read and understand technical manuals and maintain technological currency through self-study as well as formal training.
  • Work without close supervision in standard work situations.
  • Organize, coordinate, and prioritize work activities and projects and meet critical deadlines; and
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships.

Salary
  • $6,704 - $8,558/month
Qualifications

Associate’s degree, preferably in information technology or equivalent certification and three (3) years of customer and technical support experience supporting and maintaining servers, hardware, operating systems, networks or telecommunication systems.

Additional directly related experience and/or education may be substituted on a year-for-year basis, however equivalent to graduation from high school is required.

DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE
High school diploma and 5 years of customer technical support experience supporting and maintaining servers, hardware, operating systems, networks or telecommunication.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICIATIONS
• MCSE or CNE
• MCP or MCSA
• Expert in Active Directory (2012 preferred)
• Expert in TCP/IP Networking
• Strong Windows Scripting (PowerShell preferred)
• Strong working knowledge of Windows based Operating Systems, such as: Windows 10, 7, etc.
• Ability to automate task
• Excellent trouble shooting skills
• Excellent networking and systems administration skills, including switches and routers
• Valid California driver's license
• Familiarity with remote access solutions & web-based technologies
• Strong working knowledge of standard software products, such as: Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.
• Ability to assess user requirements and implement creative solutions.
