Job Description

About Major League Rugby:
Major League Rugby (MLR) is the premier professional rugby league in North America, dedicated to fostering high-stakes competition and a passionate community rooted in respect, inclusivity, and tradition. MLR matches are broadcasted on a national level, local market platforms, and The Rugby Network, offering fans access to live streams of MLR matches and other international rugby content.
 
Primary Responsibilities:
  • Draft, prepare, and review various transactional documents, including sponsorships, licensing, media rights, joint ventures, consulting agreements, non-disclosure agreements, and other legal agreements.
  • Manage investigations related to violations of the NWSL Policy to Prevent and Eliminate Workplace Discrimination, Harassment, and Bullying, along with other league rules.
  • Support league and team governance, ownership transactions, and expansion matters.
  • Provide legal support on intellectual property matters, including trademark and copyright prosecution, maintenance, and enforcement.
  • Offer strategic legal advice to business teams on data collection, processing, and privacy compliance.
  • Assist in developing league policies and procedures, and interpreting applicable league rules.
  • Support risk management efforts, including the management of insurance policies.
  • Drive continuous improvements in policies, processes, and document templates; evaluate workflows and establish priorities.
  • Perform other ad hoc projects as assigned.
 
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Juris Doctorate from an ABA-accredited law school.
  • At least 5 years of relevant experience at a leading law firm and/or corporate legal department.
  • Strong teamwork and relationship management skills; ability to work effectively as a liaison between the legal department and all internal clients and external partners/stakeholders.
  • Flexibility and resourcefulness in response to changing priorities and needs.
  • Willingness to continuously acquire new competencies and accept new challenges.
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments and deadlines with accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to manage communications and projects with a remote workforce.
  • Demonstrated honesty, responsibility, integrity, and dedication to fulfilling commitments.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, strong analytical, and critical thinking skills.
  • Willingness to work nontraditional hours as needed.
  • Strong drafting and negotiating skills.
