Job Description

ABOUT US

Catholic Charities began in 1926. Nearly a century later, we’re still working to promote the dignity of all people through our programs and services. In 2024, we served 325,000 people through programs and services that respond to poverty, unemployment, loneliness, mental illness, domestic violence, and family separation. Our dynamic programs serve all regardless of race, religion, creed, or socioeconomic status. Our programs are anchored at the St. Martin de Porres Center in North Omaha, the St. Juan Diego Center in South Omaha, and the St. Teresa of Calcutta Campus in Northwest Omaha.

ABOUT THIS POSITION

You’ll join a mission-driven team dedicated to empowering human dignity. Though our Catholic Faith guides our work, you do not have to be Catholic to join our team or receive services from Catholic Charities. As a critical and leading member of the Catholic Charities Immigration Legal Services (CC-ILS) team, you’ll get to:

Deliver Transformational Legal Representation & Client Services

  • Advocate for and represent immigrants navigating the complex U.S. legal system.
  • Provide direct legal representation in a variety of immigration matters, from family-based petitions to humanitarian relief, naturalization, and removal defense.
  • Conduct comprehensive legal consultations and case assessments, guiding clients toward the best possible outcomes.
  • Prepare and file applications, petitions, and supporting documentation with precision and care.
  • Represent clients before U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), the Executive Office for Immigration Review (EOIR), and other relevant agencies.
  • Engage in impactful legal research and draft compelling memoranda, motions, and briefs.
  • Uphold the highest ethical and legal standards while ensuring compliance with evolving immigration laws and policies.

Empower & Elevate Staff and Community

  • Provide legal oversight, mentorship, and strategic guidance to DOJ-accredited representatives.
  • Lead staff training and professional development initiatives to cultivate a team of skilled, mission-driven advocates.
  • Conduct dynamic community outreach and legal education workshops to empower individuals and families.
  • Stay ahead of rapidly evolving immigration laws, policies, and procedures, ensuring our clients receive the most effective, up-to-date representation.

Strengthen Program Excellence & Compliance

  • Maintain meticulous client records and case documentation using eIMMIGRATION.
  • Ensure compliance with all program policies, grant requirements, and ethical legal standards.
  • Collaborate in grant reporting and program evaluation to sustain and expand life-changing legal services.

WHAT YOU BRING

  • Hold a Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Be licensed to practice law in any U.S. state (Nebraska license preferred but not required).
  • Have at least two years of experience in immigration law (preferred).
  • Possess strong legal research, writing, and advocacy skills.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to serving vulnerable populations with cultural competency and sensitivity.
  • Thrive in a collaborative, team-oriented environment.
  • Be bilingual in Spanish and English (preferred but not required).

WHAT YOUR DAY WILL LOOK LIKE

  • Work on-site at our office located at 5211 S 31st St, Omaha, NE 68107, where you’ll collaborate with a passionate team dedicated to serving the immigrant community.
  • Follow a Monday-Friday schedule, balancing client consultations, legal filings, court preparations, and advocacy work.
  • Occasionally participate in evening or weekend community events and client meetings to expand access to legal services and build relationships within the community.
  • Engage in meaningful, hands-on work that directly impacts lives, from securing work authorization to reuniting families and advocating for asylum seekers.

WHY JOIN CATHOLIC CHARITIES

  • Competitive Compensation: Earn a salary of $80-85K annually, recognizing your expertise and dedication.
  • Comprehensive Healthcare: Access to health, dental, and vision insurance to support your well-being.
  • Work-Life Balance: Enjoy paid time off, recognized holidays, and retirement benefits to support your future.

  • Mission-Driven Work Environment: Be part of a team that is changing lives and making a real impact in the community every day.

This is more than a job – it’s a calling. At CC-ILS, you will work in a supportive, mission-driven environment where your expertise and dedication will directly impact lives, fostering pathways to security, stability, and hope. If you are passionate and ready to be part of a generation-shifting movement in immigration legal services, we invite you to apply today.
