Description

Join us at Christian Brothers Services, where our mission is to support and serve the Catholic Church and its ministries across the nation. Our Risk Solutions division has a full-time opening for a Director of Claims Services and Claims Counsel. This position provides leadership to internal claim consultants and external vendors in the development of service delivery models designed to assure quality in delivery of service to the Risk Solutions membership. Join us at Christian Brothers Services, where your contributions will be valued and your career will flourish in a mission-driven organization.

 

Salary range: $185,000 to $210,000

 

Duties:

  • MANAGE ALL ASPECTS OF THE CLAIM  DEPARTMENT:  Provide leadership and mentoring to the claim staff.  This includes the development of goals and objectives in the areas of leadership and professional development, team building, customer relations, problem resolution, process improvement, as well as establishing customer service standards.  In addition, provide leadership and counsel to the claim representatives for the Student Accident Plan.

 

  • PARTICIPATE IN CLAIM MEDIATIONS OF HIGH PROFILE LIABILITY CLAIMS:  In collaboration with Counsel, represent the Risk Pooling Trust by attending/participating in the negotiation of select claim mediations with the purpose of containing and controlling loss exposures through claim settlement ultimately resulting in reduced claim reserves.   Provide monthly reports on activities, detailing status of cases brought to mediation, and demonstrating the success and value of the mediation process.

 

  • MANAGE VENDOR ACTIVITIES:  Provide direction and oversight of vendor activities assuring compliance of established goals and procedures offering recommendations for processes improvements to enhance the overall performance.  This includes conducting periodic quality assurance audits measuring performance against generally accepted industry practices and service instructions specific to the Risk Pooling Trust.  In addition, defense counsel audits are conducted for the purposes of assessing each defense firm's capabilities in providing cost efficient and effective defense of litigated cases. The director of claim services/claims counsel will also participate in the negotiations of all vendor renewal contracts, and when issuance of an RFP is warranted would serve as co-chair of the interview and selection process along with and in support of the Managing Director.

 

  • RESPOND TO COMPLAINTS REGARDING CLAIM SERVICE:  Respond in a timely and professional manner to complaints received from members and/or claimants regarding claim service, payments, and/or claim denials.

 

  • COVERAGE DOCUMENT: Be the keeper of the RPT Coverage Document. Review document for accuracy. Work with the Team Service providers to update the document when appropriate.

 

  • PROVIDE QUARTERLY STATUS REPORTS ON LARGE LOSSES:  Identify losses with total incurred in excess of $500,000, and develop a narrative report senior management review.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Juris Doctorate degree from an accredited United States Law School
  • Commanding knowledge of multiple lines of property, casualty, and workers’ compensation coverages;
  • 10 years property/casualty claim related experience
  • 7 years of management experience
  • 7 years of experience managing complex litigation throughout the United States.

  • Ability to multi-task
