Position: St. Clair County Juvenile Justice Council Coordinator
Hiring Office: Office of the State’s Attorney, St. Clair County, Illinois
 
Position Purpose: 
The St. Clair County Juvenile Justice Council is a collaboration of numerous agencies serving St. Clair County youth. The Council seeks an individual to serve as Council Coordinator. This individual would be employed through the State’s Attorney’s Office to serve in this capacity. This position opportunity is the result of federal grant funding administered through the Department of Human Services and the Illinois Juvenile Justice Commission.  
Educational Requirements:

Education LevelField of StudyPreference
Bachelor’s DegreeSociology, Social Work, Criminal Justice, Public Relations, Education or Business2-5 years of experience working with social service, advocacy, or government agency
 
Skills and Abilities: 
  • Have a passion for community service focusing on children and teens
  • Possess the functional and technical knowledge and skills to do a job at a high-level of accomplishment 
  • Ability to cultivate partnerships with large network, individuals and community groups
  • Candidate must have excellent public speaking and public relations skills
  • Knowledge of submitting reports, creating plans and organizational skills
  • Excellent writing and proofreading skills
  • Proficient computer and internet skills including MS Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Adobe, video-conferencing applications, and ability to learn county and State computer programs
  • Continual attention paid to detail with large emphasis on data collection and analysis
  • Able to multi-task, work within short deadlines
  • Ideal candidate will have experience working with governmental entities, contracts, and experience with State and Federal grant funding
Candidates meeting the above qualifications who are also proficient in Spanish language will be given preference in hiring. Residency in St. Clair County required. 
 
Position Responsibilities: 
 
Juvenile Justice Council Coordination
  • Prepare meeting materials: agendas, minutes, and update point-of-contact information for Council and community stakeholders
  • Perform community outreach to community agencies for recruiting and collaboration efforts
  • Attend all Council and Committee meetings to carryout goals, report information and connect with the community
  • Monitor and revise JJC plans as needed
  • Update JJC website content on a regular basis
  • Maintain email list-serve and council roster
  • Regularly update community resource guide
 
Grant-related  
  • Drafting of applications and timely submission of reports
  • Data collection and reporting compliance
  • Monitoring progress toward council performance measures and goals
  • Coordinate and host annual site visit with grant monitors
 
Data Collection and Reporting Compliance
  • Conduct data collection analysis across juvenile decision points, and complete DHS/Commission reports to maintain compliance with reporting guidelines
  • Use informed data analysis to support the Council with the implementation of the Juvenile Justice Plan and the Racial and Ethnic Disparity (R/ED) Reduction Plan
 
Teen Court Evaluation
  • Attend monthly Teen Court sessions (held on Saturdays) and provide general assistance to program upon request
  • Collect Teen Court data, develop annual reports, and track recidivism outcomes
 
Community Collaboration/ Presentations
  • Coordinate and participate with community events to share resources, recruit and engage stakeholders
  • Attend community coalition meetings for networking and community building  
  • Seek ways to engage at the local, regional and state level to advance systems-level change  
  • Periodically attend County Board meetings
 
Serve on the St. Clair County Truancy Review Board
  • Represent the St. Clair County State’s Attorney by serving on the Truancy Review Board to connect families and school districts to community resources to improve attendance and reduce barriers
  • Inform parents and students about potential ramifications for not attending school
  • Attend truancy court dockets to follow-up with parents and provide resource information 
 
Professional Development & Community Capacity Building
  • Coordinate/Disseminate shared learning opportunities/trainings to bring law enforcement, school personnel, educators and community organizers together to focus on issues affecting youth and families (i.e. trauma, restorative justice, school discipline, racial equity, etc.). 
  • Seek professional development opportunities to build coordinator’s capacity for guiding the Council’s efforts
 
Other duties as assigned by the State’s Attorney
 
Position will be full-time and will include some evening and weekend work; position is funded by governmental grants and salary is contingent on yearly award of grant funding for this position.
