Job Description

The North Carolina Real Estate Commission seeks an experienced attorney to serve as Chief Investigations Counsel in its Regulatory Affairs Division. This role will serve as the principal legal and technical resource for investigative staff on complex or sensitive matters and will integrate the work of Consumer Protection Officers and Auditor/Investigators.
The Chief Investigations Counsel will provide unified leadership for teams responsible for consumer complaint inquiries, investigations of licensed and unlicensed activity, trust-account audits, and financial-fraud matters. The employee conducts the initial legal and factual review of new complaints; determines the appropriate investigative track, priority, scope, and staff assignment; monitors cases; reviews investigative plans, evidence, reports, and recommended dispositions; and ensures that inquiries, investigations, and audits are timely, thorough, legally sufficient, and consistent with Commission law, rules, policies, protocols, and precedents.
Independent professional judgment, leadership, initiative, discretion, and strong public-contact skills are essential.
