- About this Opportunity
The Department of Social Services is seeking a detail-oriented and organized Paralegal to provide legal support to DSS attorneys and social work staff. This position is responsible for conducting legal research and drafting a variety of legal documents, including juvenile and adult protective services petitions, special proceeding documents, notices of hearing, summonses, and affidavits of status. The Paralegal will assist with electronic filing of petitions through the eCourts platform and coordinate with court personnel, including clerks, magistrates, and other judicial officials. Additional responsibilities include preparing motions and proposed orders, conducting background and records checks, and supporting attorneys in preparing for hearings and trials. Strong communication skills, the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently, and experience in a legal or court-related environment are essential for success in this role.
- Education and Experience
Completion of an approved paralegal program and a minimum of three (3) years of related legal collections experience, or related trial practice experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required skills, knowledge and abilities.
Special Requirements
North Carolina State Bar Certified Paralegal.- Physical Requirements
Tasks involve the ability to exert light physical effort in sedentary to light work, but which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of light weight (up to 10 pounds). Tasks may involve extended periods of time at a keyboard or workstation.
