JMBM is seeking a highly qualified Paralegal with intellectual property (IP) experience for the Los Angeles office. The successful candidate will have experience with filing in different areas of IP including trademarks, patents, and copyrights, a keen attention to detail, as well as excellent organizational skills. We're also looking for a high degree of professionalism, the ability to work independently, and a collaborative mindset to thrive within our dynamic, high-paced IP team.

 

Essential Duties

  • Draw on your industry expertise to prepare and file new trademark applications, and assist in the preparation and filing of office action responses, statements of use, and declarations of use, renewals, and other maintenance documents with the United States Patent and Trademark Office.
  • Manage the full lifecycle of copyright applications, from preparation and filing through correspondence with the Copyright Office.
  • Facilitate domestic and international patent prosecution, including application preparation, office action responses, United Sates Patent and Trademark Office filings, and coordination with foreign counsel.
  • Support trademark litigation matters by preparing and filing proceedings before the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board, including oppositions, cancellation petitions, consent motions, withdrawals, and related documents.
  • Apply your organizational skills to monitor all deadlines.
  • Harness your communication skills to prepare reporting correspondence to clients and reply by phone or email to requests for information.
  • Employ your attention to detail to draft simple assignment agreements and manage the recording of assignments, changes of ownership, name changes, and security agreements and security releases with the USPTO and Copyright Office.
  • Exercise strong coordination skills to manage Madrid Protocol filings and direct foreign counsel on international trademark prosecution, maintenance, and renewals.
  • Apply strong drafting skills to prepare enforcement and resolution documents, including cease and desist letters, coexistence agreements, and settlement agreements.
  • Utilize your research skills to locate and/or investigate potential conflicting third-party marks.

 

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years of experience as an IP paralegal in a law firm or the equivalent required.
  • Four-year college degree or equivalent.
  • ABA approved paralegal certificate required.

 

Position: Non-Exempt


Location: Century City. 5 days onsite for the first 90-days, then 4 days per week onsite, 1 day remote thereafter.


Salary: $90k - $140k base
