1. Interprets legal regulations and University policies and procedures. 2. Assists in the handling of administrative and legal proceedings before federal and state agencies and courts. 3. Negotiates, reviews, drafts and interprets contracts. 4. Negotiates and drafts the settlement of claims and/or litigation. 5. Researches and drafts memoranda, opinions and correspondence on legal issues. 6. May perform other duties as assigned.

Required Education and Experience
J.D. and a minimum of 3 years’ experience in a related area.

Position Focus:
Yale University’s Division of the Senior Vice President and General Counsel seeks an Assistant General Counsel for Compliance to support Yale’s institutional compliance program.  The Assistant General Counsel will focus on legal and compliance matters relating to research as well as other key legal and compliance areas.  In addition to providing legal advice and counsel to university clients, this position will advise and support university stakeholders in building and maintaining effective compliance programs and practices.  The Assistant General Counsel will work closely with the Senior Director for Institutional Compliance and fellow attorneys in the Office of the General Counsel. Responsibilities: 1. Provide support and advice to key compliance personnel and other stakeholders responsible for compliance policy and operations at Yale. 2. Work closely with senior attorneys and compliance professionals to advise the Office of Research Administration, the Yale School of Medicine, and other offices/schools/functions on various legal and regulatory matters, such as compliance with requirements applicable to human subjects research, the care and use of animals in research, conflicts of interest, and clinical trials administration. 3. Stay abreast of relevant legal and regulatory developments, including those affecting research administration and compliance. 4. Track and collaborate with the Office of State and Federal Relations on federal and state legislative and regulatory proposals affecting Yale, including those related to research administration and compliance. 5. In partnership with key stakeholders, develop/update compliance programs and practices to satisfy relevant legal and regulatory requirements, conduct compliance risk assessments, and construct and follow through on workplans to mitigate legal and compliance risk. 6. In partnership with key stakeholders, conduct or coordinate internal investigations and responses to adverse events, allegations of noncompliance, or regulatory enforcement actions as needed. 7. Perform other duties as assigned.



Preferred Education, Experience and Skills:
A minimum of 4 years of experience out of law school preferred. Although a broad skill set is desired, candidates with experience in research regulatory compliance are preferred.
