The Paralegal 1/2 provides professional paralegal and legal administrative support to attorneys within OWCA, primarily supporting the Second Injury Board and Workers’ Compensation Fraud Unit. Duties include conducting legal research, drafting legal documents, assisting with litigation preparation, maintaining case files, coordinating court activities, and providing specialized support for civil litigation and fraud enforcement proceedings.
The Office of Workers’ Compensation Administration (OWCA) in Louisiana oversees the enforcement and administration of workers’ compensation laws, aiming to support early return-to-work efforts and improve workplace safety. The department manages disputed claims, conducts hearings, reviews medical treatment disputes, and investigates fraud through collaborative efforts like the GAME ON task force.- Minimum Qualifications
- Completion of an approved Paralegal or Legal Assistant program approved by the American Bar Association (ABA), or at an accredited college or university; OR
Possession of a Certified Paralegal (CP) certification issued by the National Association of Legal Assistants, Inc.; OR
A Juris Doctorate.

- Job Duties and Other Information
Job Details:
- Assist SIB Director with clerical tasks
- Draft pleadings, motions, memoranda, discovery requests, subpoenas, notices, and other legal filings for attorney review.
- Assist attorneys in preparing Second Injury Board reimbursement case files and workers' compensation fraud matters for litigation.
- Coordinate electronic and physical filing with state and workers’ compensation courts.
- Track litigation deadlines, discovery schedules, court dates, settlement negotiations, and appeals.
- Coordinate the receipt, documentation, deposit, and tracking of civil penalties, court-awarded costs, and other monies collected pursuant to La. R.S. 23:1208 and related fraud enforcement actions.
- Maintain data to produce the annual case liability report for the Office and the State Legislative Auditor
