Catholic Charities East Bay is a nationally accredited non-profit social services agency.  Since 1935, we have provided innovative solutions to help people who struggle with poverty and other complex issues. We offer immigration legal services, housing assistance, Mental Health Services, Violence Prevention, and more.

Summary:

We are looking for a Managing Attorney to join the Immigration Legal Services department at Catholic Charities of the East Bay. Join our mission-driven team at dedicated to providing comprehensive legal services to immigrants and their families. We strive to ensure justice and fair treatment for all under the law, focusing on affirmative immigration processes such as Visas, U-Visas, Green Cards, DACA, and more.

 The Managing Attorney supports the department by providing supervision, program management, and leadership for CCEB, and carries a partial caseload.

Responsibilities:

All responsibilities will comply with applicable statutory and regulatory requirements governing the organization including:

    • Essential Responsibilities
      • Lead and supervise a team of attorneys, paralegals, and administrative staff in the delivery of high-quality legal services.
      • Manage departmental budgets and resources, ensuring the sustainability and impact of our legal services.
      • Develop and implement strategies to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of service delivery.
      • Maintain current knowledge of immigration law and policy changes to provide expert guidance and support to the team.
      • Engage in community outreach and education initiatives to raise awareness and understanding of immigration issues.
      • As needed, participate in regular intake/consults.
      • Occasionally engage in outreach and education (provide immigrant rights trainings, volunteer at community legal clinics, etc.) as needed for other CCEB programs or community partners.
      • Represent CCEB in coalitions and with other programs, with community partners and with government stakeholders, as needed.
      • Participate actively on the CCEB operational leadership team
    • Overall Leadership
      • Provide administrative supervision to CCEB staff within the Immigration Legal Services department (timesheet review, file and case management review, oversight of deliverables and data upkeep, etc.), as needed.
      • Provide substantive case supervision to non-attorney staff and attorneys as needed.
      • Manage and coordinate legal and non-legal interns/volunteers.
    • Financial & Administrative
      • Under the direction of the Chief Program Officer, manage the Immigration Legal Services department, including oversight of deliverables, oversight of file and data upkeep by staff, technical fluency in internal files and case management system, staff recruitment and professional development, and quality control of legal services.
      • Support management of program's contracts & grants, including monthly and annual grant reporting, drafting proposals, and other associated administrative tasks as needed.
      • Lead and coordinate CCEB communications work, including management of program materials and social media platforms, in conjunction with other internal programs.
Qualifications

Education & Experience:

    • Juris Doctor and active California bar admission.
    • 4+ years' experience practicing immigration law.
    • 2+ years' experience supervising attorneys and non-attorney staff.
    • 2+ years' management and programmatic development experience (project management, tracking deliverables, hiring, planning) preferred.
    • Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
    • Experience working with people from diverse backgrounds including low-income populations, people who are marginally housed, immigrants, LGBTQ individuals, people of color, and persons with disabilities.
    • Bilingual Spanish highly preferred.

    • Must be well-organized, efficient, highly motivated, work well under pressure, and take initiative.
    • Ability to work independently as well as within a team.
    • Strong commitment to serving low-income and underserved communities, with an ability to relate to and communicate with a broad range of clients and colleagues.
    • Demonstrated commitment to immigrant rights and social justice issues, and familiarity with Catholic Charities East Bay mission and organizational work.
    • Excellent time management skills and ability to multitask and prioritize work, required.
    • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including professional phone manner.

Salary
