Job Description

Creditor's Rights law firm seeking an Associate Attorney position for the Houston, Corpus Christi, or Laredo areas in Texas.

Job Summary:

Reporting to the Texas State Managing Attorney, the Associate Attorney is responsible for litigating debt collection matters while independently engaging in risk analysis and strategy development.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

    Represents clients in pre-suit and post-judgement matters.

    Reviews correspondence and file information to determine if lawsuit or motion appropriate for filing.

    Reviews answers and prepares responses to discovery and dispositive motions.

    Manages all aspects of preparing for and appearing as counsel at hearings and trials.

    Attends court settings throughout the state of Texas through virtual appearances.

    Attends physical court settings as needed in courts in close proximity.

    Provides analysis and advises on legal and regulatory risks.

    Writes, reviews, and edits reports, opinions, correspondence, and other documents.

    Other responsibilities as assigned.


Required Skills/Abilities:

    Background in litigation

    Knowledge of federal, state, and local laws with experience in collection law and/or courtroom experience.

    Ability to work independently

    Managing shifting priorities in a fast-paced environment is required.

    Knowledge of the FDCPA/FCRA/TCPA is a plus.

    Position may be fully remote.


Education and Experience:

    Requires a JD in law

    Bar admission in Texas


Physical Requirements:

    Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.

    Frequently required to talk or hear, and use hand to type, handle, or touch objects.

    Regularly required to stand and walk, and may be required to stoop, bend, or reach above the shoulders.

    Must be able to occasionally lift up to 25 pounds at times.

    Must be able to access and navigate each department at the organization’s facilities.

$75,000 to $85,000 per year
