Location: Dallas, TX / Lansdowne, VA / Scottsdale, AZ

Team Overview

You will support the General Counsel in ADF’s day-to-day legal operations, supporting the organization and its subsidiaries. In this role, you will play  a key role in provide expert legal guidance across a range of areas while helping ensure ADF’s operations remain compliant, mission-focused, and protected from risk.

Key Responsibilities

  • Partner with the General Counsel to drive the strategy and execution of ADF’s corporate counsel team.
  • Advise on a variety of matters, including general corporate and non-profit, tax, and regulatory compliance, corporate governance and global entity management, contracts, IP, privacy and data protection, HR, ethics, and risk management
  • Assist General Counsel in ensuring ADF’s domestic and international operations remain compliant with evolving laws and regulations.
  • Advise on litigation and dispute-related matters involving ADF or its officers.
  • Conduct proactive risk assessments and pre-litigation work to protect the ministry and safeguard its rights.
  • Research complex legal issues and track legislative and regulatory developments that may impact ADF.
  • Draft clear, well-reasoned legal opinions, agreements, policies, and other documents.
  • Collaborate with and manage outside counsel as needed.
  • Anticipate and mitigate legal and non-legal risks to strengthen organizational resilience.
  • Take on special assignments from the General Counsel that advance ADF’s mission and legal strategy.

Minimum Qualifications

  • J.D. from an accredited law school with excellent academic credentials.
  • Active license in at least one US state bar and capable of meeting admission requirements in relevant jurisdiction within one year.
  • 10+ years of relevant legal experience with strong corporate legal practice and governance expertise.
  • Global or international corporate law experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and within teams while handling sensitive, confidential information with professionalism.
  • Excellent communication, analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with proven attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in legal research tools and office software (e.g., Microsoft Office, Westlaw).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior in-house counsel experience and/or big law background.
  • Subject matter expertise in one or more areas such as employment, data protection, intellectual property, taxation, real estate, contracts, risk management, or legal ethics.
  • Experience advising nonprofit organizations and knowledge of nonprofit and tax compliance.
  • Strong leadership experience, including managing attorneys or legal teams.
