Job Description:

The Department of Labor is seeking a temporary Legal Aide interested in working in a government setting to work within the Office of General Counsel and the Appeals unit and assist with a variety of legal duties. This position will work to accommodate needs as they arise in the areas of civil collection, administrative hearings, regulations, legislation and agency operation.

This is a temporary position estimated to last one year from date of hire. If the selected individual does not meet the requirements for Legal Aide II, they will be placed in the Legal Aide I classification. We are willing to hire for either full-time or part-time hours. Work schedule will be discussed with selected candidate.

Hire rate for Legal Aide II is $17.723. Hire rate for Legal Aide I is $15.337.


 

Examples of Work:

  • Legal research

  • Appearing at administrative hearings

  • Conducting hearings

  • Drafting legal documents, including but not limited to liens, subpoenas, agreements, pleadings, motions, discovery requests and briefs.


 

Requirements/ Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:

Legal Aide II: Current enrollment at a law school (approved by the American Bar Association) with completion of legal studies sufficient to have attained senior standing. LEGAL REQUIREMENTS: This class requires eligibility for Certification as a Certified Senior Law Student pursuant to Nebraska Revised Court Rules, Chapter 3, Article 7.

Legal Aide I: Current enrollment in, and completion of one year of law school (approved by the American Bar Association).

Preferred: Interest working in a government setting.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Knowledge of: legal research methods and case analysis; drafting bills and amendments; filing and record keeping methods.

Skill in: legal research and writing legal analysis and documents.

Ability to: analyze and interpret statutes; effectively communicate.
