Job Description

The ideal candidate will enhance the effectiveness of the Civil Division, consisting of multiple attorneys engaged in civil law practice, by providing quality legal research, paralegal support, preparation of legal memoranda, and maintaining confidential case and file materials 

Requirements

Key Responsibilities:

· Perform legal research.

· Write reports and legal memoranda based upon legal research.

· Organize and analyze research information.

· Cross-check and validate research information.

· Enter data and maintain cases in Clio case management software.

· Build and maintain databases and files as needed.

· Review and monitor new and updated laws and regulations.

· Welcome members of the general public, clients, and others by greeting them in person or on the telephone; answer or direct inquiries to the appropriate individuals.

· Represent attorneys by communicating and obtaining information; follow-up on delegated assignments; know when to act and when to refer matters to an attorney.

· Maintain case and office confidentiality. 

· Increase job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities, reading professional publications, maintaining personal networks, and participating in professional organizations.


Education and Experience:

· Bachelor’s degree, associate’s degree or certificate program in paralegal studies.
Thorough knowledge of legal principles and practices, legal research techniques, legal terminology, legal communication principles and practices.

· Experience utilizing advanced legal research skills in Westlaw and/or Lexis.
Knowledge of local, state, and federal laws and regulations is a plus.

 

Paralegal experience or certification required


Paralegal Skills:

Possesses excellent research, writing, analytical, critical thinking, communication, and organizational skills. Additionally, possesses excellent attention to detail, accuracy, and documentation skills including data input, and expert PC proficiency in Word. Demonstrates dependability, professionalism, and appropriate interpersonal skills.


Salary Range:

Starting salary commensurate with qualifications and relevant work experience, with retirement plan and other benefits including paid vacation and paid health insurance for the employee.


ADA Compliance:

· Physical ability: Tasks involve the ability to exert light physical effort in sedentary to light work, but which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and material of medium weight (40 pounds). Tasks may involve extended periods of time at a keyboard or workstation.

· Sensory Requirements: Some tasks require visual perception and discrimination. Some tasks require oral communications ability.

· Environmental Factors: Tasks are regularly performed without exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as dirt, dust, pollen, odors, wetness, humidity, rain, fumes, temperature and noise extremes, machinery, vibrations, electrical, traffic hazards, toxic agents, violence, disease or pathogenic substances.
